Westport Republicans Nominate Candidates

The Westport Republican Town Committee (RTC) Tuesday night endorsed its candidates for the various Westport town boards and commissions in the November election.
The candidates were recommended by the RTC’s Nominating Committee, chaired by Steven Violette, and their endorsements were unanimously approved by the full committee, the RTC said in a press release.
“We are very encouraged and proud of the experience, qualifications and leadership potential represented in our slate of candidates for November’s election,” Bob Zappi, chairman of the Westport RTC, said in a statement.
“Our candidates embody the RTC’s most valued principles: commitment to working in a fair and bi-partisan manner; dedication to the welfare of Westport; and support for the free exchange of ideas, spirited debate, and respect that are crucial parts of the democratic process.”
Zappi said the candidates are leaders in their chosen fields, active and established residents of Westport, and individuals with strong integrity and commitment.
“I firmly believe that Westporters will agree that these candidates can bring tremendous value to our town’s government,” he said.

Board of Education
Michael McGovern has served on Westport’s Board of Education since 2005. He is head of Leveraged and Acquisition Finance, Americas at HSBC Securities Inc, the world’s third largest bank. Prior to HSBC, McGovern spent more than 18 years in a variety of management positions including Managing Director at J.P. Morgan Securities Inc., and Chase Securities Inc. He has served on the Board of Trustees of Regis High School in New York City since 2004. He holds a BS from Manhattan College and an MBA from Columbia University School of Business. McGovern and his wife, Ginny, have four children and have been residents of Westport for 11 years.
