As meteoric falls from grace go, it’s hard to top Aaron Dare’s for velocity, distance and angle of trajectory.

Just 10 years ago, at age 27, the Albany native was the toast of both the city’s admiring power structure and the doting minority community of which he was a member. He was a widely proclaimed natural leader everybody who was anybody said was headed for greatness. He was the second-youngest Urban League president in the country, full of ideas for catapulting the region’s minority communities into self-sufficient oases of growth and pride.

He was physically huge at a beefy 6 feet 7 inches, a former basketball player at Albany High, Manhattan College and Adelphi University, and had a picture-book marriage to a kindergarten teacher. To say he was idolized is not an exaggeration. Look at the newspaper clips from those years, how people gushed over him.

In a decade it’s all gone to dust in a big way.
