Willowdale School District #3 All-Class Reunion Planned
By: Robert F. Lyons
Press & Dakotan

When word traveled through cyberspace that the alumni of Willowdale School District #3 were planning to have the first-ever all-school reunion on Sept. 29, in Yankton, I wondered if my wife, Nona, and I would be able to make the trek from New England. But when I saw that the majority of my five older brothers and about 50 other people educated in that one-room schoolhouse planned to attend as well as some of teachers, I knew we had to make the 3,000-mile journey. So we eagerly look forward to that trip down memory lane and what’s left of the willow lined lane east of Yankton.
About 40 years ago when I was enrolled at Manhattan College in New York City in a Masters of Education Administration program, I let out to those seasoned and quite citified classmates that my primary school education began in a one-room school on my father’s farm and that I walked to school every day down a dirt road with my five brothers and twin sister to the schoolhouse. My classmates held me in a certain awe after that admission, except for the few who would not believe there was anybody alive who had lived in that pioneer way except in the TV series, “Little House on the Prairie.” I did not tell them that it took us all of about five minutes to skip along from our house through the woods and over the fence to Willowdale School on my father’s farm.

U.S. religious leaders meet with Iran’s president, stress diplomacy
By Catholic News Service

NEW YORK (CNS) — U.S. religious leaders are “deeply concerned about the prospect of war with Iran,” said a professor from a Catholic college who was part of an interfaith delegation that met with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Sept. 26 in New York.
But Joseph Fahey, professor of religious studies at Manhattan College in Riverdale, said he left the meeting feeling hopeful because of statements Ahmadinejad made about the “renunciation of war and the quest for peace.”

“The Plural of Anecdote is Not Data.” Perfect – brilliant. After responding that it would find the light of day in a future blog post, he responded that he tracked the attribution down to a guy named Frank Kotsonis (a pharmacologist), apparently in The Clinical Evaluation of a Food Additive: Assessment of Aspartame http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/FeldThoughts/~3/162955713/the_plural_of_a.html
