John J. Riordan
JOHN J. RIORDAN — a resident of Stamford since 1973, passed away March 4, 2008 He was born July 10, 1934 in New York City, the son of the late John J. and Mary Breen Riordan, who had emigrated from Ireland.
Mr. Riordan graduated from Manhattan College, Riverdale, NY in 1955, received a Masters degree from Pace University, NYC and was a Certified Public Accountant.
He worked for Deloitte and Touche as an accountant and held corporate tax management positions at The Nestle Company, Ciba- Geigy Corporation and Combustion Engineering, Inc.. He was a member of the Tax Executive s Institute, serving as President of the Connecticut Valley and Westchester- Fairfield Chapters and as Regional Vice President of the New England Region.
Mr. Riordan served 34 years in the United States Marine Corps and the Navy Reserve, retiring in 1989 as a Captain, U. S. Navy. He served as officer in charge of a Cargo Handling Battalion Hatch Team and as Commanding Officer of NR Ships Parts Control Center, Mechanicsburg, PA; NR Defense Logistics Agency, Washington, D.C.; NR Defense Personnel Support Center, Subsistence Branch, Philadelphia, PA; and NR Navy Resale Systems and Service Office Headquarters, Staten Island. NY..
Mr. Riordan served as a Eucharistic minister for several years at the Church of the Holy Spirit , Stamford and was a member of the Parish Council for two terms, serving as president for one.
Mr. Riordan is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joan Flynn Riordan, of Stamford, six children; Ann Leona of Naugatuck, CT and her husband, Donald; Mary Riordan of New Canaan, CT; John Riordan of North Brunswick, NJ; Dennis Riordan of Copthorne, West Sussex, England; Joan Riordan of Stamford, CT and Brian Riordan of Monroe, CT. and his wife, Maureen.
Also surviving are nine grandchildren; Kaitlyn, Jillian and Jake Neuberger; Molly, Christopher and Michael Leona and Roan, Aoife and Siobhan Riordan, all of Connecticut.
He was predeceased by a sister, Sister Margaret Riordan, RSM.
Calling hours will be held at Leo P. Gallagher and Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday, March 6, 2008.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Holy Spirit , 403 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford at 12:30 P.M. Friday March 7, 2008. Burial will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Stamford.
