First and foremost, Bernadette Dunne, president now for three years, wants a fourth year as president. Her stake in this goes well beyond mere ego. She needs to demonstrate a certain power and influence at the Yonkers BoE to maintain her personal operations which include teaching for Manhattan College, connecting potential students to take her classes from inside the Yonkers BoE, and bringing education business to the college, which maintains her employment. In addition, she gets to maintain her “iron grip” on Superintendent Bernard Pierorazio, his staff, as well as keeping the Trustees on the “reservation” for Mayor Phil Amicone. Not to mention that she also gets to promote her administrative candidates for principals and assistant principals throughout the District. Nice, huh! Besides, her commitment to the Yonkers Public Schools District is self-serving. When she attends events, she is in and out with a “canned” speech. As president, she really has no interest in being in the public eye. The lower her profile, the more she and Mayor Amicone like it.
