Subject: Get stuff – Give away stuff

There’s no more need to have or go to garage sales. This wonderful organization facilitates giving away stuff you don’t want or just can’t keep and allows you to get other people’s stuff for free.

Joe Ryan, the assistant coach of Manhattan College’s track and field team, has been selected to be the nation of Guyana’s track and field coach for the Olympic Games to be held this summer in Beijing.

Ryan will be situated in Beijing for the month of August and will be staying in the Olympic Village. Among the athletes he may coach for Guyana will be Manhattan alum, sprinter Aliann Pompey. Pompey is still looking to post an Olympic qualifying time, but is likely to post that mark and represent Guyana this summer.

”This is a great honor and I’m thankful to the Guyana Olympic Committee for putting its faith in me,” said Ryan. “I also think it is a tribute to the track and field program at Manhattan College.”

Ryan has coached at Manhattan for nearly 20 years. After serving two years as the women’s assistant coach and two years as the women’s head coach, Ryan has spent the last more than 10 years as an assistant coach in Manhattan’s combined track & field program.

In 2003, Ryan was named as one of the recipients of the 2003 AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year Award. He was one of 500 selected out of 350,000 high school and college assistant coaches across the nation. He was recognized for his expertise, longevity, contributions to the school and community, and special achievements throughout his career.

Welcome to Newport Running Camp 2008

The 23rd Edition of the Newport Running Camp will be held for the second straight year at the scenic campus of Portsmouth Abbey School, just a short ride from historic Newport, Rhode Island. Using Bill Dellinger’s Oregon System, the Newport Running Camp provides individual as well as team training.

It is our goal to provide a program that is friendly to runners of all ages and abilities. Campers will learn how to visualize and mentally develop a mind set for achieving outstanding performances within an individual and team framework.

Besides Coach Dellinger, athletes will be schooled by students of Coach Dellinger:

ADMINISTRIVIA: Anyone have a Lexis Nexis news account?

I need the query “manhattan college” run once a week for the previous week. I used to run it every Wednesday. A previous employer has given up that contract. So we’re cut off from that source. All you have to do is email me the output and I’ll parse it. This is a low budget non-profit operation so there’s no budget for an expensive news gathering options. Your help would be appreciated.

Last week roughly everyone I know graduated from college. I was an usher at the baccalaureate mass and the actual ceremony, and I had to make sure to tell everyone to watch their step, yet half the people did not listen to me and tripped anyway. And now basically all of my Manhattan College friends have graduated. Except Maura. And Christine might as well have not graduated since I will be seeing her everyday of my life for the next year or so. Yay sharing a bedroom. Which reminds me, we’re moving into our apartment next weekend. We need to get our cable/internet set up. Eek.
