Please tell ten friends to tell ten today! The Breast Cancer site is having trouble getting enough people to click on their site daily to meet their quota of donating at least one free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman. It takes less than a minute to go to their site and! click on ‘donating a mammogram’ for free (pink window in the middle).

This doesn’t cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors /advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate mammogram in exchange for advertising.

Here’s the web site! Pass it along to people you know.

John: My latest Obama caricature is not really a political cartoon.
Some folks in Oregon hired me to do the face of Obama for a new “product” – really a gag gift – called “OBAMAir”. Their company usually sells bags of frozen food. Now they’re offering bags of Obama’s own breath, captured at some of his recent campaign stops and packaged for mass consumption, at $10 a bag! (I’m told that in the event of a “water landing”, it can be used as a flotation device.) You can buy them online at their website, www.obamair.com . Check it out; it’s
hilariously funny. – Jerry Breen (Jasper ’71)

Petrides grad leads his team of volunteers from Goldman Sachs at annual games
Tuesday, May 20, 2008

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Richard Ranelli was up early last Saturday.

Real early.

Getting-up-for-work early.

The 23-year-old analyst at Goldman Sachs rises early every weekday, so you couldn’t blame him for wanting a few extra winks on a Saturday.

But last Saturday, he just had to get to Monsignor Farrell for the Staten Island Special Olympics Area Games.

Ranelli was a co-captain for the team of 35 other Goldman Sachs employees that volunteered to work the event.

“It’s definitely the sacrifice of a Saturday,” said Ranelli. “But it’s a worthy sacrifice.”

The Games, celebrating their 30th anniversary this year, had 515 athletes and over 200 volunteers. And Ranelli wasn’t missing out this year.

“Goldman has been helping at this event for years,” he said. “The sign-up sheet fills up fast, because it’s something everyone wants to be a part of, so this year, I got on early.”

Last year, Ranelli missed out, ending up at an animal shelter in Brooklyn, where he went on a couple of dog-walking missions. As an athlete — he played baseball and basketball at Petrides before becoming captain of the crew team at Manhattan College — it was easier for Ranelli to fit in at a sporting event.

“It’s nice to be able to give something back,” said Ranelli. “Being involved in sports, that’s definitely a big reason I wanted to get involved with this.

“It’s worth getting up in the morning. I wanted to be there. When you see the look on the faces of the athletes, it’s just great.”

American Legion Post Announces
Memorial Day Parade Plans

***Begin Quote***

Anthony W. Buzzitta, commander of the Manhasset Post 304, American Legion, and James T. Brooks, parade chairman, have announced the line -of-march and schedule for the traditional Manhasset Day Parade and for the attendant memorial services. All Manhasset residents, their families and friends are invited to join the Legion in this remembrance of the great sacrifice of these American heroes.

The theme of the parade this year is celebration of the 80th year since the Post was founded and a memorial to Past County Commander and Past Post Commander William A. Baxter, who served his country, his community and his church for many years. Deceased Veterans of all wars will all be remembered, especially the 24 Manhasset residents who passed away during the past year. The Gold Star Monument in the Mary Jane Davies Green Park lists all the names of all the service members from Manhasset, killed in action, during all the wars since the Civil War. Last year, Sgt. James J. Regan’s name, having served multiple tours of action in Afganistan and Iraq, was added.

In preparation for the Memorial Day ceremonies, the Legion, assisted by Boy Scout Troop 97, will place American flags on the graves of veterans in local cemeteries and participate with other Legion Posts to decorate the graves at the Pinelawn National Cemetery. Memorial wreaths will also be placed at five memorial monuments in Manhasset. Plandome Road will be appropriately decorated for the occasion.

A Memorial Service in honor of our war dead will be held on Sunday, May 25, at 11 a.m. at the Community Reformed Church, 90 Plandome Road, Manhasset. All are invited to join with the Legion in the remembrance of the great sacrifice of these citizen soldiers.

On Memorial Day, May 26, the parade will begin promptly at 10 a.m. Over 30 organizations are scheduled to march including five bands and more than 30 pieces of fire apparatus and other vehicles.

The route of the parade will be along Plandome Road from Plandome Court to Memorial Place with excellent public viewing along the entire length. Those planning to march in the parade are expected to be present, ready to march, in their designated assembly areas no later than 9:30 a.m.

After brief remarks by Commander Buzzitta, the Reverend James E. Only, Congregational Church of Manhasset, will give the Benediction.
