Nicholas Arthur Rambone, age 98 of Danbury, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008. Mr. Rambone was the husband of the late Margaret (Hickson) Rambone. He was a dedicated father who put love of family above all else. He was born in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan, November 14, 1909, a son of the late Costabile and Mary (DiPietro) Rambone. Nick graduated from Manhattan College with a B.S. in Engineering in 1932 and with a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering in 1933. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Nick retired in 1983, in New York as a professional engineer from Naclerio Contracting Company. In his long career, he worked on many bridge, tunnel and highway construction projects in the Metropolitan Area, including the Henry Hudson Bridge, Throgs Neck Bridge and Delaware Aqueduct Tunnel. Other projects included LaGuardia Airport and the World’s Fair of 1939. Due to his involvement with public works projects, he worked closely with New York City’s “Master Builder,” Robert Moses. Mr. Rambone was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 15 D, NYC. Mr. Rambone raised his family in Eastchester, N.Y. and Scarsdale, N.Y. and was a volunteer for the Eastchester Fire Dept., a president of the Holy Name Society of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale and served as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 2 in Scarsdale. He was past president of Manhattan College Alumni Association, Westchester Chapter. Nick was an avid golfer, playing into his 95th year. He was a member of the Richter Park Senior Men’s Club. For the last 25 years he made his home on Candlewood Lake and enjoyed summer, sun, lawn and garden work and family cook- outs. He will be missed by his family and friends. Nick is survived by two sons, Robert Rambone of Montpelier, Vt. and Stephen Rambone of Newtown; a daughter, Joanne Rambone Creeden of Litchfield; a sister, Gloria Salomone of Pleasantville, N.Y. He was the proud grandfather of Chris, James, Lane, Matthew, Michael, Allison, Corey and Bridget. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Rd, Danbury, Saturday June 28, 2008 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY. Friends may call in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown, Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.
