HERE WE GO: BOB STEI’S MAJOR ANOUNCEMENT

So……

Let me start off by telling you a bit of a dream I had as a child and a teenager. Remember, I’m just a stupid hick from ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags” />Randallstown, Maryland! I was obsessed with a few things: the radio industry, my birth home of Philadelphia and a rock group called The Smiths. Never in my life did I think I would live the dream of combining all three passions, until this month. It is with excitement and sadness, that I announce to you my friends, that this Saturday night will be my final night on 95.1 WZZO, as I make the transfer to my new radio challenge: weekends at WRFF 104.5 “Radio 104.5″ PHILADELPHIA!!! This is my dream come true!

The last four years in the Lehigh Valley have been some of the best times in my career and my life! I will truly look back on my Saturday programs with fondness and great memories. I’ve not only had a blast airing some crazy phone calls and sharing a part of my life, I’ve also worked with some amazingly talented people and met some friends for life. I met so many of my favorite bands and hung out at so many crazy places. You also were part of my life as I bought a house; lost 60 pounds and most importantly, I got to share the stories when my daughter was born. I can’t thank you enough for letting me be a part of your life!

It would take forever to thank every single person who helps make this happen! In my 18(wow!) years in the media, soo many great people have been by my side in every move I’ve made. However, I will take a second and thank John and Wendy from Radio 104.5′s Programming department for putting faith in me, Brian and Renie at Clear Channel for keeping me buys at the station and getting my face out there, and to my friends Soscia, Meg, Zach and Josh for listening to endless “air checks” and answering a million times, “How does this sound?” Most importantly, I thank the two most important people in my life, my wife Melissa and my daughter Kimberly who have sacrificed many, many nights and weekends, and are as excited about Daddy being home as I am!

For now, you can catch me Sunday evenings on Radio 104.5 or www.radio1045.com from 6-9pm. I honestly can say, musically this is the greatest radio station in the world!

This Saturday I look forward to one more night at WZZO, and hopefully we’ll decide where to celebrate afterwards. I will keep this my space, and all my other contact information the same. I truly can not thank all of my listeners and co-workers at WZZO enough for everything! Not bad for a dumb hick from Randallstown, Maryland.

With love and gratitude,

Bob Stei

JFOUND: Brazil, John (MC2006) has an album of his music for sale

http://www.myspace.com/johnbrazile

After playing in several cover bands in Boston and New York over the past few years, twenty-three year old singer-songwriter John Brazile has written an album of his own called Commencement.

The album is a mix of gritty Americana and roots-rock in the style of Ryan Adams, the Wallflowers, and The Counting Crows. Brazile recorded much of it in his home studio in Worcester, Massachusetts in early 2008. He has recently been racking up car mileage for gigs in Memphis and New York in support of the album.

College audiences were introduced to Brazile via his previous EP, Sessions, as it received spins at a handful of college radio stations in the Northeast. Subsequent shows from ski resorts to frat-house basements have helped the band to develop their live act.

Brazile is currently performing weekly shows at New England clubs and working to promote Commencement. Tours of the East Coast and South are planned for the remainder of 2008. There are two new albums in the works as well.

This page is currently the primary source for news, music and upcoming shows. The website www.John.Brazile.com will be launched in late June.

Dear John,

In response to Jerry Plunkett’s e-mail, you asked if others were interested in the return of the “unnamed Jasper’s” comments.

Although I mostly disagreed with the libertarian comments (and BTW, I, too, think that the labor of another human being should be recognized as something more than a “commodity”) of the CIC and “curmudgeon”, I enjoyed reading them and sometimes responding to them and I would welcome them back.

[JR: The Church should stand for the people. If you think that means "social justice", then I bet you'll find there are a lot of different definitions. Today, "social justice" means "more government (gooferment) interventions that leave us less free". imho!]

County executive speaks of our duty to veterans; town supervisor unveils flag depository

Marking the 64th anniversary of the D-Day invasion at Normandy, hundreds of people gathered June 6 to raise money and support for the Fighting 69th infantry, which was deployed in March on a mission to Afghanistan.

Troops’ families along with veterans, politicians and Huntington citizens filled the Terrace Room of Oheka Castle for breakfast, musical entertainment, and a salute to the men and women who have served as well as those who are serving our country.

More than $8,000 was raised for the 137 members of the Fighting 69th infantry, for “whatever they need to ease their lives while they’re serving these 15 months,” said Carol Rocco, coordinator of veteran’s affairs for the town.

As part of the U.S. National Guard, troops from the Fighting 69th infantry — from Company B, Huntington Armory and Company D, Bay Shore — are stationed throughout Afghanistan to help train the Afghan National Army and Police Force

During Friday’s event, County Executive Steve Levy spoke of the county’s commitment to returning veterans. “It’s our duty as American citizens to make sure they’re not only welcomed back with open arms but we’re there to care for them and their families,” he said.

To that end, Levy said a new county-owned and operated East End health clinic for veterans will open by late 2008 or early 2009 at the Riverhead County Center in the Town of Southampton.

He added that operation “Veterans Stand Down” — a county partnership with nonprofits and local agencies that provide housing, financing, employment, food and clothing to veterans — aims to “make sure that in Suffolk County there’s no such thing as a homeless veteran. I can tell you, we’re going to help fight until that is a reality.”

Town Supervisor Frank Petrone waxed poetic in his introduction of Beth Delli Pizzi, president of the Family Readiness Group that serves the infantry’s families. “When people volunteer and they give of

themselves, they don’t really recall where it starts or where it comes from,” Petrone said.

Introducing Lieutenant Colonel Charles Crosby, the Fighting 69th battalion commander, Petrone said, “The Fighting 69th count on him. We count on him, and he hasn’t let anyone down.”

Commander Crosby said when the troops are in harm’s way, they’re stronger and safer from the support they get from community.

Keynote speaker, columnist and author James Brady, who recently penned a book entitled “Why Marines Fight,” regaled the crowd with humorous personal tales.

“I didn’t want to be drafted, so I joined the Marine Corps,” Brady said. “Smarter people have found better ways to avoid the draft…. When I graduated from Manhattan College in June of 1950, the Korean War began 15 minutes later.”

Of the Marines he served with, Brady said, “Ladies and gentleman, they were giants. And there are giants in this room today.”

Petrone then unveiled a mailbox that the town will keep at Town Hall as a depository for old flags. “This mailbox will sit in our lobby to collect tattered and worn flags so they can be disposed of properly,” he said.

Following the breakfast, Jennifer Fullam, whose husband, Captain Michael Fullam has been in Afghanistan with the Fighting 69th since January, said she is taking it “day by day.” Jennifer, who lives in Malverne with their six-month-old daughter, said she communicates with her husband sporadically, depending on the modes available to him, and hopes to see him in September, when he expects to get leave.

Having already served a year in Iraq two years ago, Sergeant Michael Cantley was leaving the next day for his second tour in Afghanistan. “I thought it was going to be easier the second time around, but it’s just as hard,” his wife, Lily Cantley, of Smithtown, said. “Anything can happen.”

Acknowledging that the hardest part is the emptiness she feels in spending holidays alone, Cantley said, “You just have to pray and keep your hopes high.”
