John:
As you have frequently reported, the College’s Alumi Staff has done a poor job of updating their record base. Now, we get postcards to call and update our info. I called, hoping that it might really be improving, answered the questions and then heard a sales pitch to purchase an Alumni Directory for a ridiculous price. Then, 3 days later, got another call with a pitch to sell me again. I think the Alum staff has really gone sleazy since Joe left. The staff has taken the easy way, farmed out the work and this reeks of the old “Who’s Who in Colleges and Universities” scam to sell books.

[JR: It was the same with the last Green Alumni Directory. I'm not sure that "sleazy" is the right word. Us injineers aint good with dem big wurds like you science guys; I'd call it "stingy". The two directories that I remember were BOTH absurdly priced! The last one did bring in and introduced the online directory. I often kick myself for not putting up an equivalent, but it would have cost real money. I run this on a zero budget. I find it hard to envision that a college -- with Engineering, Math, and CompSci -- based on an excellent network infrastructure (I had a hand in specifying it!) -- couldn't put up an equivalent "online database" for next to nothing. But, what do I know. I do know in at least TWO cases, the lousy treatment of two alums has made them adamant about not being "developed". Sigh, makes me crazy.]
