1948 – 2008
Michael Stephen Gebren, 59, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 26, 2008.
Funeral: 9 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Hurst. Interment: 11 a.m. in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Ridge Funeral Home in Hurst.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that all donations be made to the Livestrong Cancer Foundation.
Mike was born and grew up in Manhattan, New York City. He joined the Air Force after receiving an electrical engineering degree from Manhattan College. He flew the RF-4C Phantom in Germany and Texas and served with civil engineering squadrons in Florida and at Carswell Air Force Base. He retired from the Air Force as a lieutenant colonel and then worked with Lockheed Martin for 25 years as an engineer.
Mike enjoyed doing activities with his children. He was a soccer coach, officiated at diving meets and taught them all to drive a stick shift. Mike attended track meets, bike races and tailgating parties at college football games. He also enjoyed camping with his family and traveling.
Mike and his wife, Susan, especially enjoyed boating on Eagle Mountain Lake with family and friends from the Fort Worth branch of the United States Power Squadron.
Survivors: In addition to his wife of 36 years, Susan, Mike is survived by his daughters, Maggie and her husband, Jesse McLean, of Austin and Katie and her husband, Ben Sewell, of Dallas; and son, Stephen and his wife, Katy, of Fort Worth. He also leaves behind his brother, Bob and his wife, Susan, of Columbia, Md.; and his sister-in-law, Kathy Jones of Dallas.
