Guest Book for Reverend Robert W. Barnes

July 16, 2008

I would like to express my sympathy to the family of Father Barnes for their loss. He will surely be missed!

But mostly, I want to share with you my gratefulness for having the opportunity to get to know him. I was able to become friendly with Fr. Bob through my work at Creamery Brook Retirement Village. It always was a pleasure to chat with him. He truley was a gifted man with so much wisdom to share. I really loved being around him; he was a kind man with a good sense of humor yet a man of great stature. May God bless your family and may you find comfort in your most cherished memories.

Sincerely,
Anne Collelo (Moosup, CT)

To The Barnes Family,

Thank you for sharing your wonderful brother, uncle, etc. with us. We came to know Father Barnes at our church-St. Joseph’s in Occum. We loved him dearly and certainly will miss him. We know he is in a better place and is now running things up above. He was certainly a gentle giant, who always had a kind word for everyone.

Father’s funeral Mass was beautiful. Hearing the choir sing his favorite songs really touched our hearts. We could feel him smiling down at us. Listening to his family recall fond times with Uncle Bobby also brought tears to our eyes.

We will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers in the days ahead.

We came to know Father Barnes when he was here in East Hampton, and he became a dear friend with whom we kept in touch for many years afterward. He was truly a compassionate man, a gentle giant with a keen mind and a delightful sense of humor. Our lives were richer for his presence among us, and he will be sorely missed. I have no doubt, however, that he and my husband are now renewing their acquaintance in the presence of our God. Blessings to all of you who have been blessed to call him brother and uncle. May our God help each of you to find comfort and peace in your memories of the love you shared with the man we know as Father Barnes. Thank you for sharing him with all of us.

With sincerest sympathy,
Donna Daly (East Hampton, CT)

My heart was heavy when I learned of the passing of Father Barnes. I worked closely with him at St. Joseph Church and last visited him November 2006. I know and believe he is in much better place than we are.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. “No man is an island, entire of itself … any man’s death diminishes me”. We are sorry for your loss.
