Brother Carl Malacalza: Principal of La Salle Institute in Troy, which dedicates the new St. John Baptist de La Salle Chapel on Tuesday.
Background: 66, born in the Bronx “near Yankee Stadium.” Graduated from Manhattan College where he also received a master’s in religion. He also has a master’s degree in mathematics from Syracuse University. He lives on the La Salle school campus with other brothers.
When did you decide to devote yourself to your religion?
I was majoring in science at Manhattan College when I joined the Christian Brothers along with my best friend. My friend left but I stayed.
