John: Here’s the cover art for a new project I’m working on. It’s a book called “Dreams from My Sa-Mekh”. Basically, it’s a parody of Barack Obama’s memoir “Dreams from My Father”, except that it’s written by a half-Vulcan/half-human Starfleet officer (like Spock). “Sa-Mekh” is the Vulcan word for “father”. Just like Obama, Spock was always somewhat conflicted about his mixed ancestry. So there’s a lot of potential for humor there. P.S. On a serious note, I was saddened to hear of my old friend Steve O’Hagan’s recent death from lung cancer. At Manhattan back in the 60’s, Steve and I were both members of the “B.V.D.”, the Brothers of Visual Drama (the film club). Though we were few in number, we entertained and enlightened many by showing an incredibly diverse selection of films, everything from Michaelangelo Antonioni to Ingmar Bergman to Richard Lester, including such hard-to-find films as Leni Riefenstahl’s notorious documentary “Triumph of the Will”. Steve’s obituary in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution mentioned his love of Irish culture and his love of sailing, but Steve also had a great love and appreciation for the art of film. Fortunately, I was able to reconnect with Steve by phone earlier this year and we had a nice conversation. I didn’t realize we’d lose him so soon. He was a truly nice guy and a great Jasper. – FJB
