James Strecansky has been appointed to the Bonita Springs Utilities Inc. board of directors to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Marc Ciaffone.

Strecansky has lived in Bonita Springs since 2000 and serves on the boards of the Shadow Wood Homeowners Association and a community development district of The Brooks, as well as two neighborhood committees.

He retired as division vice president and general manager after a 38-year career with Air Products & Chemicals, a Fortune 500 company that supplies industrial gas and produces cryogenic equipment.

Strecansky holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Manhattan College and has participated in the advanced management program at Harvard Business School.

RICHARD A. SNELLINGS AGE: 61 MASSAPEQUA, NY Richard A. Snellings, 61, passed away at home on December 26, 2008. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Richard resided in Massapequa, NY for the past 20 years. Richard attended Manhattan College where he received a B.S. in Mathematics. After graduating in 1969, he went to work for MetLife where he eventually became an Assistant Vice-President of Ethics and Compliance. After retiring from MetLife in 2007, he continued to work there as a consultant. In his free time, Richard enjoyed taking cruises around the world with his wife Denise and friends. Richard is predeceased by his wife, Denise Day. He is survived by his three sons; Robert Scott Snellings and his wife Tara of Rockaway Township, Richard Barton Snellings and his wife Jackie of West Orange and Michael Randolph Snellings of Parsippany, grandchildren; Connor, Trevor and Caitlin, brothers; Kenneth and his wife Barbara Snellings, Steven and his wife Jacoba Snellings, both of Alpharetta, GA, and Ronald and his wife Joan Snellings of Chesapeake, VA, nieces; Elizabeth and Jessica, nephews; Robert, John and Michael, A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at Norman Dean Home for Services on Wednesday, December 31 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. (Please light a candle in Richard’s memory on web site www.normandean.com ) In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association 1 Union St., Suite 301 Robbinsville, NJ 08691.

Sister Mary Laurene Yancovitz

SISTER MARY LAURENE, 91, a native of East Boston, MA, died Saturday, December 27, 2008 at St. Catharine Motherhouse, St. Catharine, KY. A Dominican for 74 years, Sister Mary Laurene graduated from St. Catharine Junior College, St. Catharine, KY with a degree in Education and English, from Manhattan College, New York City, NY with a degree in French, English and History and from Boston State College, Boston, MA with a degree in Guidance and Philosophy. Sister taught in elementary and high schools in Kentucky, Nebraska, Illinois, New York and Massachusetts. She served for 20 years as a missionary at Our Lady of the Prairies in Powers Lake, ND. Most recently she served in the Apostolate of Prayer at Sansbury Care Center and St. Catharine Motherhouse. Sister Mary Laurene is survived by her brother, Francis Yancovitz; and her sister, Alice Maider. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2009 at Sansbury Care Center Chapel, with burial in St. Catharine Motherhouse Cemetery. Visitation is 3 p.m. Thursday, January 1, 2009 at the Chapel. Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield, KY is handling the arrangements.
