BAY CITY, Mich. — TV5 and WNEM.com has learned about new circumstances surrounding Marvin Schur’s death.

A limiter on Schur’s electric meter is being blamed for the man’s death. Now Bay City said it will notify customers before their power is shut off.

Michigan’s Attorney General Mike Cox said Tuesday he would review the case.

*** and ***

TV5 also found out that Bay City isn’t regulated by the state agency because it’s a municipal company.

*** and ***

Schur’s neighbor, Herndon, said Schur had a utility bill on his kitchen table with a large amount of money clipped to it, with the intention of paying that bill.

Right now the city said the situation is still under investigation. Marvin Schur was a World War II veteran.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%81ngel_Ramos_(educator)

200902201352.jpg

Ángel Ramos (educator)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dr. Ángel Ramos (born 1949) was the founder of the National Hispanic Council of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Superintendent of the Idaho School for the Deaf and the Blind, and was one of the few deaf person of Hispanic descent to earn a doctorate from Gallaudet University.[1]

Early years

Ramos was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In the early 1950s, Ramos’ parents left the island and moved to New York City. Shortly afterward, his parents divorced, and as a result he and his sister were raised by his mother, who worked as a seamstress. They lived in a poor apartment building, along with a number of relatives. Ramos attended public school, leading a normal child’s life until 1959 when, while nine years old, he lost his hearing. He was able to hide his impairment from his mother for two years and from his school by following directions on the classroom blackboard and by reading his textbooks carefully. By 1961, he had learned to lip-read and this helped him to get by in both elementary school and high school.[1]

Academic education

Ramos later enrolled and attended Manhattan College in New York. By that time, he learned sign language and while 21 years old, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. Ramos then worked as a taxi driver until he was hired as a gym supervisor at a deaf school — with his only pay being room and board. Eventually, he became a teacher at another local school for the deaf.[1]

Brings Back Memories….

February 23rd, 2009 | 5:48am

of when I attended what used to be a truly Catholic college (Manahattan College).

I commented recently at a diocesan meeting that there is no crisis in Catholic elementary education that requires the closing of all these schools. There IS a crisis in Catholic identity. Catholic parents can get good private education for their children (for the most part) but they struggle to find schools that are unabasedly Catholic in identity. If our Catholic elementary schools were very clear about their mission in the Church, Catholic parents would make the necessary sacrifices to support them. Instead, many are opting for home schooling because they cannot count on their children graduating from our Catholic elementary and high schools with their Catholicism intact and formed well enough to evangelize the world.
