Subject: ‘Lay” Presidents
John,
The first article you referenced on the selection of Dr. O’Connell referred to him as the first “lay” president of our Alma Mater. In Canon Law, all of our presidents have been lay, as religious brothers are not clerics. I know, this is inside baseball, but it is as important a distinction (for certain values of important) as that between Riverdale and Manhattanville.
To demonstrate that he has renounced Satan (or at least Fordham), will Dr. O’Connell be required to declaim the Fordham Ram’s dietary preferences from Center Court during the first Home game of his Presidency?
We should all keep Dr. O’Connell in our prayers, as his success is essential to Manhattan’s future.

[JR: Good "eye". I have always been amazed at Brother President's ability to "herd cats". I pray our new President (either one) is blessed as well. I can see getting someone but from Fordham? Seriously, I think that MC has turned a corner here. And, it's not a good change imho. Things will change. Change happens. And, it's rarely good. Maybe I'll be surprised.]
