Brings Back Memories….

of when I attended what used to be a truly Catholic college (Manahattan College).
I commented recently at a diocesan meeting that there is no crisis in Catholic elementary education that requires the closing of all these schools. There IS a crisis in Catholic identity. Catholic parents can get good private education for their children (for the most part) but they struggle to find schools that are unabasedly Catholic in identity. If our Catholic elementary schools were very clear about their mission in the Church, Catholic parents would make the necessary sacrifices to support them. Instead, many are opting for home schooling because they cannot count on their children graduating from our Catholic elementary and high schools with their Catholicism intact and formed well enough to evangelize the world.
