Mary Diedrich on Giving Recess More Respect:

on Well from 14 hours ago

I am currently studying at Manhattan College to become a teacher. I have had experience in the classroom, and of course been a student myself. I feel that it is absolutely necessary for students, especially those at the elementary level, to get time to play outdoors. At school students are expected to exercise their minds, shouldn’t they also get the chance to exercise their bodies? Most of the time children are assigned so much homework, and have after school commitments that playing after school is not an option. I feel recess absolutely helps children to have a balanced day. It allows them to get out any cramped up energy, as well as create a social aspect for children! Students would hate school if they were given no time to enjoy themselves. Shouldn’t we be making learning fun and school a desirable place for students? If recess time is not allotted then this cannot occur. Yayyy for recess!!!

College Background: The Comeback

*** begin quote ***

The Weeks after surgery were very awful. My doctor assured me it was a 100% success. She said my calf was really trapped and when she released the pressure it shot out. I cant tell to, my calfs are are bigger now. I had a great physical therapist, and he got me right back on track. All my friends were good to me during that time, coming to visit me when I could not go out, and picking me up to go out when I could not drive. Same with my ex girlfriend, she was over just about everyday, and I really think they all helped me recover faster.

Now I am back at college, I just ordered a new pair of Newton Running shoes, and I am starting to alternate running and walking and my calves feel very very very good. I haven’t felt this good in a long time. It’s been a long road to recovery, and I’ve been through a lot, but I’m going to keep at it.
