This group is designed for all those who wish to give service during Sunday Mass in the Chapel of St.John Baptist De La Salle and his Brothers.

Express your interest in serving as: an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Lector, Gift Presenter, or Usher. Simply post your interest and availability. As Sundays approach, an event will be posted with assignments.

Note: This is an excellent way to be active in the community’s prayer life. Also, its a great place for any type of service hours you may need to be signed off on.

Steven Montoni ’07 stopped in to see how the Science Olympiad team was doing. He attends Manhattan College and is a Sophomore in Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics. He stopped in to see most of the entire faculty it seems.

Buying a sash from the Gaelic Society for $5 is required to join the Manhattan contingent. No stragglers will be allowed to join the line of march so please arrive on time. Please dress and act appropriately – no “odd ball” dress, funny hats, beads or commerical advertising will be permitted by order of the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Committee. Also, plan on joining us for the White Plains St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 14, 2009, 11:00 a.m. Alumni and students will be led down Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains, NY by the Manhattan College Pipes & Drums in their 12th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Line-up is promptly at 11:00 a.m. on Mamaroneck Ave. at the intersection of Old Mamaroneck Road.

  Russ Schreifer is indeed a Jasper and one of “ours “. He is a member of the class of 1980. I remember him inviting Perry B. Duryea to speak when he was running for governor as a Republican. The meeting was not very well attended, perhaps because no “refreshments” were served. It also could have been due to the dearth of Republicans on campus at the time.

Michael Richard Parisi (born April 18, 1983 in Huntington, New York) is a Minor league baseball right-handed starting pitcher for the Memphis Redbirds (AAA) in the St. Louis Cardinals organization.

He was drafted in the 9th round of the 2004 MLB draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. He also was invited to spring training in 2007 and 2008. Parisi went to and graduated Manhattan College in 2006 and was a pitcher for the Manhattan College Jaspers. On November 20, 2007, Parisi was added to the Cardinals 40-man roster in order to keep him from being lost in the Rule 5 draft.

On May 4, 2008, Parisi was called up to the big-league club.[1] Parisi made his MLB debut on May 5, 2008 at Coors Field. He pitched a scoreless inning of relief and his first career strikeout was against Matt Herges.

On November 20, 2008, the Cardinals outrighted him to its AAA affiliate (Memphis Redbirds), reducing their 40-man roster to 36.[2]

Parisi is only the second Major League Baseball player to hail from Sachem High School in Lake Ronkonkoma, New York on Long Island.

John,

The first article you referenced on the selection of Dr. O’Connell referred to him as the first “lay” president of our Alma Mater. In Canon Law, all of our presidents have been lay, as religious brothers are not clerics. I know, this is inside baseball, but it is as important a distinction (for certain values of important) as that between Riverdale and Manhattanville.

To demonstrate that he has renounced Satan (or at least Fordham), will Dr. O’Connell be required to declaim the Fordham Ram’s dietary preferences from Center Court during the first Home game of his Presidency?

We should all keep Dr. O’Connell in our prayers, as his success is essential to Manhattan’s future.

POSITRACTION: Pennsylvania Most Pro-Life State in America

   Americans United for Life (AUL) today released its sixth annual ranking of the most and least pro-life states. Pennsylvania, Louisiana, and South Dakota top the ranking, while California, Hawaii, and Vermont ranked lowest.

   “AUL’s annual ranking highlights the significant progress we are making each year toward a more pro-life America,” said Dr. Charmaine Yoest, AUL President & CEO. “There is every reason for optimism even in the face of new challenges. Since the election, we have seen a huge outpouring of grassroots support for our work opposing the radically pro-abortion Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) as well as hundreds of inquiries about life-affirming legislation.”

   While AUL’s criteria covers states’ treatment of all life issues, final rankings depend largely on each state’s enactment of prudent and well-supported laws. Such laws fence in the abortion license granted by the U.S. Supreme Court in its 1973 decision, Roe v. Wade. Among the laws AUL looks for are informed consent, parental involvement for minors, medically-supported regulation of abortion providers, and limitations on the use of taxpayer dollars for abortion.

[JR: One can only hope that this ... ... genocide ... ... stops. Unfortunately, with supposedly "liberals" in charge, that's not likely. I'd suggest that we attack their use of a heroic label, "liberal", for their socialist agenda. In the days of the "Divine Right of Kings", liberal was Holy Mother Church defending the serfs. And, "liberal" proclaiming the Lockian negative rights of every man. The DofI (Declaration of Independence) is a "liberal" statement of the rights of the sovereign individual.THe DOWGs (Dead Old White Guys) hit the nail on the head ... ... "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." That's a "liberal" agenda! Right to Life. Without it all other rights are meaningless. IMHO]
