I just received notification that BG USAF (Ret) Greene just passed away after a long bout with cancer. Sam graduated from Manhattan College in 1958. He also attended Cardinal Hayes High School.

I worked for Sam in the Pentagon from 1977-1979. Great guy!!

GREENE SAMUEL J. GREENE Brigadier General USAF (Ret.) Of Springfield, VA on Monday, April 13, 2009 at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, after a long and courageous battle with prostate cancer. He leaves behind his loving wife Fran Gedra Greene and six children from previous marriages, Marguerite (Bill) Thompson of Hacienda Heights, CA Stephanie (Bernd) Bruenner of Ventura, CA Theresa Seeley of Ventura, CA Glenn Greene of Santa Monica, CA Kristin (Chris) Marshall of Sacramento, CA and Samuel E. Greene of Washington, DC a brother John from Rumford, NJ and six grandchildren, Thomas, Erik, Victoria, Zachary, Mariya and Liz. The family will receive friends at the Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA 22032 on Friday, April 17 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 8800 Braddock Road, Annandale, VA 22003 on Saturday, April 18 at 11a.m. A Mass will be held at the Ft. Myer Chapel on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 10:45 a.m. Burial will follow in Arlington National Cemetery with Full military honors.
