Former IIA Chairman William “Bill” Duane Passes Away
William “Bill Duane: 1935 – 2009
The IIA’s 1988-89 Chairman of the Board William J. “Bill” Duane Jr., CIA, CFSA, passed away on May 6, 2009, in Wyckoff, NJ.
A member of The IIA since 1970, Duane was a strong supporter of the profession, and continued to serve The IIA in many capacities after his term as chairman of the board was over, most recently as chairman of the guidance planning committee and chairman of the professional issues committee.
Other key roles held by Duane include vice president of The IIA Research Foundation, chairman of the board – professional practices, international secretary, international treasurer, chairman of the budget and finance committee, chairman of the professional practices committee, chairman of the professional standards committee, chairman of the international relations committee, and president of the New York Chapter.
Duane was also an advisory board member of the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO) and was on the project advisory council for the COSO report, Internal Control Issues in Derivatives Usage. He was also active in the American Institute of CPAs, the New York State Society of CPAs, the American Bankers Association, the Bank Administration Institute, and the advisory boards of the business schools of Louisiana State University and Manhattan College.
Professionally, Duane was general auditor for Chemical Bank, senior vice president and general auditor for Manufacturers Hanover Trust Co., and audit manager for Arthur Andersen & Co. In retirement he formed the consulting firm Rockchapel Associates, was a senior advisor to PricewaterhouseCoopers, and served as a consultant to the board of the Long-Term Credit Bank of Japan.
