CHICAGO (AP) – An antibiotic widely used in Africa to treat eyesight-robbing infections seems to help prevent Ethiopian children from dying of other diseases. A study in Wednesday’s Journal of the American Medical Association suggests an unintended benefit from efforts to wipe out trachoma, the world’s leading preventable cause of blindness.

Argh!
We, The People, need a strategy for dealing with Africa, its poverty, and the challenge it represents.
Corrupt gooferment there makes everything we do problematic.
At the very least our gooferment should hold the various African gooferments accountable. That is, no goodies without genuine measurable progress.
It makes no sense to put “lipstick on pigs”.
Our gooferment should encourage, using the bully pulpit, NOT tax dollars, fundraising to cure this disease.
We have our own problems. But maybe our drug companies can hire some people to deal with the increased business.
Even though I’m unemployed, I’d kick in a C-note to eliminate this scourge.
Provide it was voluntary and we held their gooferment accountable.
I’m sure my fellow alums can figure out better strategies and tactics.
After all, I’m just an injineer.
Inspiring what we could accomplish if we had the right memes and paradigms.
