Jews who escaped Nazis as kids recreate train trip

LONDON (AP) – A vintage train carrying Holocaust survivors pulled into London on Friday, ending a three-day trip across Europe that marked the 70th anniversary of their extraordinary rescue by a young British stockbroker.

Waiting to greet them at London’s Liverpool Street Station was Nicholas Winton, age 100, who organized the rail “kindertransports” that carried hundreds of mostly Jewish children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia to safety in 1939.

Winton’s wife persuaded him to have his story officially documented. A film about Winton’s heroism won an International Emmy Award in 2002, and then-Prime Minister Tony Blair praised him as “Britain’s Schindler,” after the German businessman Oskar Schindler, who also saved Jewish lives during the war. Winton rejected the comparison and the description of himself as a hero. Unlike Schindler, he said, his life had never been in danger.

Elton John Denied Adoption of Ukraine Toddler

*** begin quote ***

Sir Elton John will not be allowed to adopt a little boy from the Ukraine because he is too old and is not married. John found the boy in an orphanage but he and his partner, David Furnish have been deemed unfit. The little toddler called Lev, only 14 months old is HIV positive.

According to Family, Youth and Sports Minister Yuriy Pavlenko, parents looking to adopt a baby from the country need to be married, thus John does not qualify because the country does not recognize same sex marriages. “Foreign citizens who are single have no right to adopt children … and the age difference between the adopter and the child cannot be more than 45 years,” Pavlenko said. “The law is the same for everybody: for a president, for a minister, for Elton John.

Argh!

Us Libertarians don’t like gooferment “solutions”. Especially, when they don’t “solve” problems.

Gooferment has no business in the “marriage business”.

Personally, I think it’s between a guy and a girl. But as far as the gooferment is concerned, there shouldn’t be any preference for “families”. It’s sole job is to protect us from force or fraud.

So, here we have a little kid in the custody of the Ukraine version of gooferment. Their rules keep this kid from a good home. Argh!

Sorry, kid!

I’d like every child to have a good home with a mommy and a daddy. I’d like every child conceived, that is able to be born, to have a good home with a mommy and a daddy.

When the supply of good homes with a mommy and a daddy is zero, I’m interested in the best interests of the child.

Staying in an orphanage, run by the caring gooferment bureaucrats, isn’t as good as a home.

Sorry, but I’m an injineer and I like practical solutions.

Argh!
