Mount Honors Bechtle With Seton Medal

Sister Regina Bechtle will receive the Seton Medal on October 14.

The College of Mount St. Joseph will honor Regina Bechtle, SC, Ph.D., with the 2009 St. Elizabeth Seton Medal on Wednesday, October 14, in the Mater Dei Chapel at noon. Sister Regina will then present a lecture titled “Harvesting Wisdom: Theological Abundance in St. Elizabeth Seton’s Story.” A reception will be held immediately following the lecture.

Sister Regina serves as the charism resource director for the Sisters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul of New York, a congregation she has been a member of since 1962. She previously served on the congregation’s leadership council and as director of the Center for Leadership and Spirituality. In academia she has held such positions as resident scholar at the Institute for Ecumenical and Cultural Research, Collegeville, Minn., and assistant professor of theology at Maryknoll School of Theology, Maryknoll, N.Y.

Sister Regina is an active member of numerous organizations including the Catholic Theological Society of America and the History of Women Religious Network. She also serves on the advisory board of the Vincentian Studies Institute. Sister Regina holds doctorate and master’s degrees from Fordham University, and a bachelor’s degree from Manhattan College.

    Sister Regina was one our classmates; she was in a number of my classes in the Engineering Building and was commonly referred to as the “plainclothes nun”.
