William “Bill” Joseph Foody
Foody, William Joseph “Bill”, age 78, a resident of Riverside for 8 years went to be with the Lord on October 30, 2009.
Bill was the first U.S. born child of William and Mary Foody, recent immigrants from Ireland. Bill was born in New York City on September 16, 1931 and he became the first person in the family to graduate from college. Bill graduated in 1955 from Manhattan College in New York City. He served in the Korean War and was a decorated veteran. As a businessman, Bill held several responsible managerial positions and in 1974 Bill joined Switzer Candy Company in St. Louis, MO., which he eventually headed. Bill retired in 1992 from David and Sons Co., a division of Nestle Foods Company. Throughout his working life Bill received many awards and promotions for his contributions to these companies.
Bill’s life was filled with activities. He served as his sons’ Cub Scout leader, baseball and basketball coach. Bill enjoyed flying planes, sailing, wood working, and loved to read. Both Bill’s sons and his grandson are Eagle Scouts, a collective achievement for which he was very proud. In September 2001, Bill and Blanche decided to move closer to their oldest son and family in Riverside, CA. While in Riverside, Bill was a member of the Grove Community Church and volunteered at the Riverside National Cemetery. Bill was a deeply religious man and Jesus Christ was a big part of his life.
Bill is survived by his wife, Blanche of 50 years; son Bill Foody and his wife Amy and their two children, William and Josephine of Riverside, CA.; son Andrew Foody and his wife Lisa of Melbourne, Australia; nephew Emmett Lynch and wife Fran and daughter Lexie of Pasadena, CA.
Bill was well loved and will be remembered by his family and friends. Services: A memorial service will be held at the Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA. on November 17, 2009 at 11 a.m. staging area #1. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making donations to the American Diabetes Association of America, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA. 22312
