Advice sought for post-COBRA health care coverage

*** begin quote ***

Group,

My COBRA health care coverage is almost up – next month will be the last (18th) month that I can purchase COBRA health insurance.

Can anyone in the group suggest reasoanble alternatives for my health care coverage going forward? For reasons unknown to me, policies such as those available from the IEEE and AARP (I’m 52) are not available to residents of NY (and usually NJ as well.)

The only plan I’ve located so far is a catastrophic plan + prescriptions from GHI for $450/month (single) but I think that may have a deductible of $25000. I’ll have to investigate further.

I would appreciate any and all advice and suggestions on available coverage options for myself in 2010.

Thanks,
Don Roderick

[JR: I remember that there was a independent consulting organization that offered "benefits" at their costs. I try and find it again.]

PRAYERSREQUESTED: “We” have a fever and GI pain

(For those late to the “prayer party”, one of our fellow alums is Mom to a trio of delightful young children. The “oldest”, 10 ish who like bad jokes, is battling cancer.)

“fever this morning – 103.6 F” and “BAD stomach pain (crying involved) and we are not sure”

[JR: OK, my fellow Jaspers, do your thing. ChemEs pray for relief of the fever, Sanitary the tummy, and EE's pain in general. MEs and CEs and others give "high cover" and standby for specific assignments. Seriously, other than make silliness, what can be done. Can only imagine what Mom, our fellow alum, is going thru. "... I pray to the Lord ..."]

“Five”

[JR: Hey what do I know about kids agewise -- food in the north end and poop out the south end, change diapers until they turn 18 and go to college. End of problem? LOL! Can't do much other than pass the word along. "Remote" prayers might do some good.]

Cardinals right-hander Mike Parisi wants everyone to know he’s healthy, and he made sure to prove that on Monday.

Parisi allowed one run on three hits on 50 pitches in five innings in what was likely his final start of the Arizona Fall League season as the Surprise Rafters defeated the Peoria Javelinas, 6-4.

Parisi, limited to five games in 2009 after Tommy John elbow ligament surgery in ‘08, picked up his third win in the AFL. The Manhattan College product, selected in the ninth round of the ‘04 Draft, pitched in 12 games for St. Louis in ‘08 and is aiming for a return in 2010.

John,

It’s hard to believe, but I think Mike got one wrong.

I’m pretty sure Jean Spence was an ’82 graduate with a Masters in Chemical Engineering. (She received her undergraduate degree from Clarkson.

I worked with Jean at Maxwell House Coffee in Hoboken after I graduated in ’81.

Raymond Carroll – ’81

[JR: Thanks, Raymond. Much appreciated. We'll just have to get Mike a new set of reading glasses.]
