Re: Hon. Anthony Cardona, 1962
Dear John,
The Nov/Dec Issue of the NY State Bar News has an article at page 16 reporting that Judge Cardona received the “Ray of Hope Award for His Compassion”. Here is an excerpt from the Article:
“At the LAP (Lawyers Assistance Program) Volunteer recognition Dinner on November 5, the Capital District Lawyers Helping Lawyers Committee presented the third annual Ray of Hope Award to the Hon. Anthony V. Cardona, presiding justice of the Appellate Division, Third Department.
Justice Cardona has been very important to the LAP mission, opening the doors of the Third Department to the LAP staff and volunteers, and welcoming our presentations and networking efforts. With this award, we can publicly thank Justice Cardona for helping our colleagues in need, said Committee Chair Lawrence A. Zimmerman of Albany (Hiscock & Barclay LLP).

Cardona graduated from Manhattan College (1962) and earned his law degree from Albany Law School, after serving in the U.S. Navy as an officer during the Vietnam War.
He practiced law for 14 years, part of that time as an attorney with the Albany Public Defender’s office and as a law guardian in Albany Family Court.
His judicial career started as Albany County Family Court Judge in 1985, where he served until being elected to the Supreme Court in 1991. Cardona was appointed administrative judge for the Third Judicial District in 1992 and was appointed to the Third Department in 1993. He was first appointed presiding justice in 1994.
