John,
I have a new e-mail address. It is {Privacy Shield Invoked}. The {Privacy Shield Invoked} will cease to be effective after 2/13/10.

[JR: Great. You can "self-serve" your jottings subscription unless you need help? As usual, I'm going to give you my "lecture" about why you should have an "eternal" email address. Not related to your Internet Service Provider.]

SERVICE: One example of why you SHOULD NOT use your ISP’s email address

I’m sure that there are other ISP horor stories.
Why put yourself in that position in the first place?
My Service Provider — http://www.1and1.com/?k_id=9113251 — for example, I could really care less if you use them, if you do I think I get fifty cents — wonder if I’ve ever got a commission ever? — offers for 12 $/year to provide you with email, a domain name, and bunch of other stuff.
So why would you EVER put your email, and web site, at risk?
You can guess why the ISP “gives” you anything for “free”. It’s too lock you in and make it difficult if not impossible to move.
Now, at the very least, you should have “just — another — email — address” registered at Gmail and use it externally. You can forward “just — another — email — address” to “my — supposedly — freeeee — isp — email — address”. You can use IMAP or POP to do the forward. And, GMAIL will filter spam better than anyone.
Do it my way and people, who have your email address, never lose you. Especially, the people, who got it from someone else and you don’t know. Do it yours and you’ve disappeared!

[JR: Running Jasper Jottings all these years, it's amazing how many people "get lost". Argh! It'll be better when MC pushes out @alum.manhattan.edu email addresses again. It's gmail in disguise and has all the features of gmail. Wonder how many people will be confused by it?]
