I encourage all members of the Thomas More Law Society to participate in the Operation Rainbow event on campus tomorrow! As those interested in the law, we have a responsibility to become educated on one of the most controversial legal issues of our generation-Gay Rights.

Get Involved! See you there!

[JR: Sounds like an old style 60s demonstration. Seem like the current crop of Jaspers are Secular Progressives. Odd for a really "Catholic" college. And, I'd have thought "abortion" is the most controversial; not "rainbow". Not even sure it's "one of". There are a lot more important ones -- the economy, the deficit, the debt, war on "terror" aka jihad, lack of civil in society / politics, offshoring, the unfunded pensions, privacy, civil rights, welfare / warfare state, energy, rise of China as an economic power, Iran nukes, North Korea, and immigration. Doesn't even make my top ten!]

MObit: MC 1915 when it was in “Manhattnville”

claremont-theater-manhattanville-new-york-city-1915

Claremont Theater, Manhattanville, New York City 1915

*** begin quote ***

The village of Manhattnville was established in 1806 in a valley at the crossroads of Bloomingdale Road and Manhattan Street (Broadway and 125th Street).

The community was the site of churches, a grade school, and Manhattan College (1853). A ferry terminus on the Hudson River, a mill, and a brewery contributed to a thriving enclave that had about five hundred residents at mid century.

[JR: Here's a reference to MC when it was in "Manhattnville". Even before "Manhattan". Useful for those discussions of why is MC in the Bronx; to escape the congestion of NYC, of course. LOL!]
