You’ve Been Gone for Eight Years and Five Months
*** begin quote ***
It is November of 1980, and
The Philosopher says that Love
is the child of Plenty and Want.
You’ve been gone for eight years and five months,
but you’re with me wherever I go -
you’re with me at Manhattan College;
you’re with me in Philosophy 101;
you’re with me at the end of the beginning.

J.R. McCarthy is a large and sweaty man from the Bronx. He currently resides in a reasonably safe neighborhood called Bronxville, with Tricia, his beautiful and virtuous wife. He is a high school teacher by trade, an author by aspiration, and by his own admission, something of a windbag. Recently, he came to grips with the fact that he would never achieve his lifelong goal of becoming a child prodigy. The rest is silence – not! J.R. McCarthy’s first slim volume, “AMBIVALID and BACK IN THE HOLY BRONX” is available from Serious Ink Press, the lively publishing arm of ARTISTSILOVE.COM. J.R. loves you, but if you don’t visit ARTISTSILOVE.COM each day, you simply don’t love him. Wink at someone homely today.
