Subject: Whoops!

I just realized I never attached the link to the video I meant to send.

OK… second try…. at least it should be in time for next week’s jottings!

====

Is this still the right place to send Jottings submissions? I haven’t sent any for a while and have forgotten. Might be good to add a tag line at the bottom of the notes for folks!

I wanted to say (in reference to society/government vs. the Catholic Church): Don’t EVER let anyone tell you your “tin-foil hat is too tight.” Do you have ANY idea how often I got told that in the 90s and early 2000s when I warned east coast bar owners and casino honchos that the Antismokers would ban smoking in their places? Heh… I got laughed at more than Jay Leno! And just as I warned them, step by step, slicing away at Mussolini’s Freedom Salami, that’s the way things get lost.

And here’s something some of the Jaspers (at least any who knew me) might enjoy: a video of me after giving a presentation this Spring at the Hague! :) If you’re not into the subject matter but are just curious about what I look like 37 years after graduating I appear at about the 8 and a half minute point and then pop in and out till the end.

Also, here I am in a 15 minute interview on the Mike McConnell show from Chicago:

So I’ve been keeping busy!

Peace be with thee John!

Hi MJMcF73,

This is the right place. Among many.

Everyone tells me I’m a raving loon who sees JBTs (jack booted thugs) around every corner. I think I am sane. But that “We, The People” have just lost our collective minds. I keep seeing example after example of corruption (i.e., the Louisiana Purchase, the Cornhusker Kickback, and the normal “logrolling” in Congress). I see very simple questions, like the Birth Certificate, that are covered up and glossed over. (Why would some one spend millions of dollars to conceal their paper history?) And, I know that certain historical events have explanations that are pure “barbara streisand”! (i.e., Wilson got us into WW1 using the Lusitania which was carrying munitions; FDR either started or induced the Japanese to attack Pearl Harbor; Waco; Ruby Ridge; TWA 880 over the LI Sound). And that’s just off the top of my head. Maybe my tin foil hat is on too tight?

And, don’t get me started on the loss of freedoms, the taxes, and Gooferment spending.

I just shake my head at how far we have fallen. If you believe the Gooferment statistics, and they’d NEVER fudge the numbers, by their own stats: we have fallen to 12th globally in education; umpty umph in freedom; there’s no inflation yet my costs go up all the time it seems, and there is Gooferment spending galore with a healthy dose of unfunded liabilities.

And, I’m the one with the tin foil hat?

I’ll enjoy the videos later. I’m off to the hospital to do battle with the medical establishment who wants to throw the boomerang (i.e., discharge my wife), who hasn’t yet put two good days of number in the last ten. But it will all be better under Obamacare! Another topic, not to get me started on!!!

L8R, thanks again for the content, it’s hard to pull together material for the weekly mailing, although the daily blog makes it much easier. Dona Nobis …

Daniel Joseph Wagner, 89, died Tuesday (Sept. 14, 2010) in Good Samaritan Home.

He was born April 7, 1921, in the family home in New York City, the youngest son of Katherine Ann Hession and Francis Daniel Wagner. He married Margaret “Peggy” Dodge on Sept. 30, 1944.

As a proud, young Marine, Daniel served as part of the Fleet Forces in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He performed as company officer, platoon leader, and company executive officer, ending his military career as Second Lieutenant in China at the end of the war. Following the war, Daniel became a committed employee of American Brake Shoe Co./Abex Corp. for 40 years, being dubbed “Fossil” by young salesmen in his division.

Daniel was a loving father and a devoted husband to Margaret “Peggy” Dodge Wagner, whom he married in Quantico, Va., just prior to being shipped overseas. Their marriage spanned 63 years.

Surviving Daniel are his daughters, Elizabeth “Ann” Harley of Chardon, Ohio, L. Rita Sloan and husband, Pastor Lindy M. Sloan of Quincy, and a son, Kevin Wagner of Great Barrington, Mass.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jack Wagner of Lansbury, Pa.

Getting Rudy’s Catholicism right (well, mostly)
Posted by Mark Stricherz

*** begin quote ***

Judis’ point is well taken. It’s no accident that while mayor of New York that Giuliani cut crime and disorder. His Catholic schooling paved the way for his interest in the topic. Just think of his mayoral predecessors: Abe Beame, Ed Koch, and David Dinkins. None of them were educated at a Catholic high school and college as Giuliani was.

If Judis were an expert in Catholicism, he might have teased out how Giuliani was educated not just in Catholic philosophy but that of the Christian Brothers; Giuliani attended Bishop Loughlin in Brooklyn and Manhattan College, both of which are Lasallian schools. (“St. John Baptiste De La Salle, pray for us! In our hearts forever!”). The Christian Brothers’ charism is aimed more at educating the working and middle classes, as opposed to the professional classes that the Jesuits aim to teach. But that’s asking a bit much of any writer.

My main criticism of Judis’ story, which is one I have of every story about Giuliani, is its failure to explore why Giuliani switched in 1989 from pro-life to pro-choice. While Judis notes that Giuliani changed his views in order to win the endorsement of the Liberal Party, this begs some serious questions. Did Giuliani believe he was making a pact with the devil? Or did he consider abortion a fringe issue?

[JR: I'm no saint and examining anyone's "Catholicism" is far far above my pay grade. I'd hate to have mine. And, in Rudy's defense, the American hierarchy is not with out its own sins. That being said, it's hard to explain the shift from life to choice. That shift may have cost him a shot to be the Prez, but if he didn't he might never have been Mayor, which means he never gets to even be in the race. Suspect that you can't change "principles" without question.]
