GREENSBORO — Charles “Charlie” Sullivan, husband of former UNCG Chancellor Patricia A. Sullivan, died Wednesday, Oct. 27, after a brief illness. He was 70.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Greensboro.
Staff and faculty at UNCG remember Charlie Sullivan as an avid Spartan basketball fan and a man dedicated to supporting his wife during her 13-year tenure at UNCG. He was known for his gentle good humor, often calling guests to dinner with a train whistle and rewiring circuits in the chancellor’s residence.
Sullivan was quite a capable electrician, holding both a master’s and a PhD in electrical engineering from New York University. He had a 25-year career in the corporate world with General Electric and Texas Instruments, where he worked on the analysis, design and computer simulation of semiconductor devices and fabrication technology and the development of semiconductor engineering software.
He grew up on Staten Island, N.Y., just up the block from Pat Sullivan. They met at the Manhattan Engineers Ball when he was a junior at Manhattan College and married in June 1966.
