WILLIAM T. COLSTON

Of Arlington, VA on January 21, 2011. He was the beloved husband of Kristen (Klein) Colston and devoted father of Noah and Ethan.

An engineer by training, Mr. Colston was the Division Director for Antarctic Infrastructure and Logistics at the National Science Foundation since November, 2009. Previously, he had been a Deputy Managing Director and then Director in the State Department’s Bureau of Overseas Building Operations. From 1999 until 2003, he was with the Defense Department, serving in a number of roles including as deputy project leader for the Pentagon renovation project and as project leader for the Project Phoenix reconstruction following the September 11 terrorist attack.

Mr. Colston was born on June 20, 1969 in Bronxville, NY. He graduated from high school in Denver, CO in 1987 and from the Coast Guard Academy with a civil engineering degree in 1991. He received a Masters degree in environmental engineering from Manhattan College in 1996. He served as a lieutenant in the Coast Guard from 1991 through 1996.

An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Colston was an accomplished bicyclist, triathlete, and hiker. In 2010, he completed the Ironman St. George triathlon in Utah. He was also a youth hockey and soccer coach in Arlington.

He is also survived by his brother Daniel and his parents, Mary Helen and Donald Henry, all of Frisco, TX.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 29 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 4000 Lorcom Lane in Arlington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, (woundedwarriorproject.org) or to the National Park Foundation, (nationalparks.org).
