Lochmuller, Charles H. (MC1962) commented on your post.

“He was speaker for my commencement. MC ’62. My mother met him and he asked “are you Charles Lochmuller’s mother?”. She never forgot that day!”

[JR: Cute. Wonder how he knew? Name tags? A Prof who whispers? Hmm, radio waves! Very nice thrill for her.]

JEMAIL: Toner, Mike (MC1972) wonders why not give a vote

RE: The Adjunct Faculty saga

>JR: MC’s getting a good roasting in the blogosphere.

Dear F. John,

Yes, and alma mater could have avoided all of it and maybe even engendered some positive comments had she simply allowed the adjuncts to freely choose whether they wanted to be represented or not. President O’Donnell’s letter notes that he thinks most adjuncts believe themselves to be fairly treated by the College. So why not simply allow the election? Union representation and an institution’s Catholic identity are not antithetical.

Then, should the election be for representation, bargain in good faith – in keeping with Catholic teaching. And, if President O’Donnell’s feelings are borne out, perhaps the adjunct faculty would choose not to be represented. Then alma mater would have saved herself considerable expense and bad publicity.

I don’t understand why so many are opposed to letting the labor-management marketplace take its course.

On another note, I am sorry I didn’t respond earlier to your call for input on the future of JJ. I do, however, endorse the choices that you made and announced a few weeks ago.

As always, thanks very much for continuing to collect and publish.

[JR: Weeelllll, I'm not so sure I agree. "Secular Progressive" liberals use "Social Justice" and unionization as a wedge. IMHO there is a FIrst Amendment religious objection to the NLRB's action. They have no standing to decide "religious enough". If Stamford is a "religious" school, then so's MC. It doesn't matter what the Prez thinks, the NLRB thinks, or what you and I think. The Gooferment must "steer clear" of Religion. Litmus tests are for chemistry. If the University of Phoenix claims to worship the internet, then it to is entitled to the protection of the First. Why opposition? You're conceding on big issue: jurisdiction, standing, and venue. And, you're agreeing to play by the "Secular Progressive" rulebook. Do you think you're going to get a fair shake in a Gooferment Court? I don't. And, I have yet to hear a grievance that we should allow the Gooferment to play judge, jury, and executioner.]

[JR: No one contributed any votes so you weren't alone. Makes me wonder if I'm that proverbial tree in the forest. :-) No votes; no complaints.]

MFOUND: JUNE 12, 1962 RFK at MC

ADDRESS BY ATTORNEY GENERAL ROBERT F . KENNEDY AT MANHATTAN COLLEGE CONMENCEMENT EXERCISES NEW YORK, N. Y.

JUNE 12, 1962

Most Reverend clergy, Christian Brothers, very distinguished guests … and new fellow alumni:

I am honored to become at this hour, and in this manner, a member of the oldest Catholic alumni group in the United States. It is a high privilege for one somewhat removed from your campus and exacting curriculum to be included in the select company receiving degrees today.

{Extraneous Deleted}

To graduates bred and trained in this hallowed place I need not say these things. I need not speak of forgetfulness and forteiture. Manhattan has indelibly inscribed within your separate hearts the tender words of Terence:

“I will make you remember always, this place, these years and me.”

[JR: I saved the entire text over on the Back Lot at http://goo.gl/asDw8. The link above is a hard to read PDF.]

[JR: Personally, even back in those days, I was never a Kennedy fan boy. Unfortunately, liberals don't understand the limits of Gooferment. That being said, by way of disclosure, you can't read these words and not feel sorry for their loss -- JFK, RFK, MLK, and all those so lost. Who knows what the world might have become. I have my own tin foil hat suspicions, but this isn't the place. I urge you to read the written words and feel their emotional power. Interesting. What could have been.]

JEMAIL: Antenucci, John (MC1959) sparks a club

John,

Just joined the newly formed Italian – American Club of Sarasota, FL.

John Antenucci ’59

[JR: Congrats. Now what do we do with all the Irish Americans in Sarasota? I know ship them back to Bronx or Bogota NJ. Seriously, well done. Tocqueville thought that through associating, the coming together of people for mutual purpose, both in public and private, Americans are able to overcome selfish desires, thus making both a self-conscious and active political society and a vibrant civil society functioning independently from the state. Glad to see you're doing your part to make that happen.]

Top Science Journal Publishes Study by 8 Year Old British Students

A group of British children aged between eight and 10 had their school project on bees published by the prestigious Royal Society in a world scientific first, the society said Wednesday.

[JR: In my magnus opus CHURCH, I pointed out that we waste the first 20 years and the last 20 years of our lives. School, especially Government School, is a waste of time -- for the most part. Children are learners instinctively. Must be a survival trait. But, we allow our paradigms and memes to blind us to our own potential.]

ENDNOTE: Marquette University “cino”?

http://www.lifenews.com/2011/01/06/catholic-marquette-university-hires-pro-abortion-russ-feingold/

Catholic Marquette University Hires Pro-Abortion Russ Feingold
by Steven Ertelt | Milwaukee, WI | LifeNews.com | 1/6/11 7:01 PM

*** begin quote ***

Marquette University is finding itself on the wrong side of the pro-life debate as it has chosen to hire pro-abortion former Senator Russ Feingold.

*** and ***

That’s not good enough for Joshua Mercer of Catholic Vote.

“Wisconsin voters kicked Sen. Russ Feingold out of office, so what happens at Marquette University, a Catholic school in Milwaukee? They just gave him a job,” he said. “Catholic voters in Wisconsin are all too familiar with Feingold’s pro-abortion and anti-family agenda. He had a 100% pro-abortion rating from NARAL and he also favored eliminating marriage as the exclusive union of one man and one woman.”

*** end quote ***

[JR: Anyone protecting the "Catholic" brand? If this is the hill that The Church says is worth dying on, (And I think "they" are right!), then it should strip it's brand from any of it's components that goes rogue. Immediately! Argh.]
