JEMAIL: ANONYMOUS passes along another joke

FROM AN ANONYMOUS EMAIL

*** begin quote ***

Here’s another injineer joke for you, John.

Harold Camping, the minister who predicted the end of the world on May 21, is a former civil engineer.

Which just proves what we always knew:

NEVER trust an engineer when he gives you a schedule.

[JR: ROFL! Good thing it's a slow Jasper news week. I need filler. :-) Even if it's not true. Us injineers are schedule freaks; it's the business guys who mess up a good project plan.]

JEMAIL: Delaney, Gerard M. (MC1975) informs about “Sister’s College” at MC

John,

In the ’50s, Manhattan offered the “Sister’s College” which allowed members of women’s orders which did not have their own degree granting programs, to study for bachelors and masters degrees. My own aunt. also a member of the Brentwood CSJ, is an alumna of this program. I don’t know if their records would be under their baptismal (birth) names, or their names in religion. Many religious reverted to their baptismal names in the 70s, which adds to the confusion. Although Sister Marie appears to have kept the name she received on entering the order.

May Sr. Marie, and all of our teachers who have preceded us into the Eternal Presence, rest in peace.

JEMAIL: O’Connell, Bill (MC1976) wants limited Gooferment

Re; Jasper Stebbins. Why is the knee jerk reaction to the concept of smaller, limited, government the blanket statement that we want NO government. We believe in government’s duty to protect our rights, not to take them from us to use by the government and dictate the terms of our life. No more. No less.

Bill O’Connell, ‘76

[JR: Well, I'd like no Gooferment. "Governments are instituted among men". The Dead Old White Guys writing stuff down can't bind people who were not even born yet. (from Spooner) So, there has to be "contract" somewhere that I agree to be bound by. Otherwise, it's immoral slavery. A free market, of which we have almost none, CONTINUOUSLY allows me to "elect" my choices and express my VOLUNTARY participation. (Market for Liberty by Linda and Morris Tannehill) It much more than wanting benefits for free; it's about freedom.]

COLONIE — Memorial Day takes on special meaning Monday for two area families who will accept war medals on behalf of their deceased relatives.

*** and ***

Robert O’Brien of Clifton Park received several awards for his service during World War II in China, Burma and India, and as a radar operator aboard B-29 bombers during combat missions. He passed away in August 2010.

*** and ***

Robert O’Brien grew up in the Bronx and served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Forces from 1944-45. Gillibrand will present his family with the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, New York State Conspicuous Service Cross and other awards on Monday. Rep. Paul Tonko, D-Amsterdam, is expected to join Gillibrand.

Robert O’Brien moved to Clifton Park in 1974 and worked as a chiropractor. He fell ill with cancer in 2008. About a month before he died, he dictated the letter that his daughter sent to Gillibrand because he wanted his grandchildren, Sean Walsh and Ryan Triller, to know about his service. His accomplishments now live forever in the medals.

“It’s kind of remembering what he did for his country,” Maura O’Brien said.

JFOUND: Keller, Jen [MC2013?] walks for a friend’s memory

Friends honor Rosa Holowen with Relay of Life walk
FRIDAY, MAY 27, 2011
THE RECORD

*** begin quote ***

Rosa Holowen still has an impact in Hasbrouck Heights, long after losing her battle with cancer last August. Her memory inspired the ROSA Fund (Relief for Our Special Athletes), started by former Hasbrouck Heights/Wood-Ridge girls soccer coach Ollie Pimm to raise money for local athletes and has inspired friends and teammates to do the Relay of Life, which will take place June 11 at Hasbrouck Heights High School.

*** and ***

Jen Keller was close with Holowen. The two played softball on a UGALS Under-16 team a few years ago and were friends for years before that. Keller, who just finished her sophomore year at Manhattan College, is one of many people in Hasbrouck Heights who wants to pay tribute to Holowen and keep her memory alive.

To that end, they will gather at the high school next month at 6 p.m. and walk all night to raise money for the American Cancer Society. The walk is done in teams and will go until 6 a.m.
