A new psa by Harry

Here is the copy for my 60-second ad for this Sunday’s “Nature” concert by the Brockton Symphony Orchestra. You can click on the player below to hear it, with music from two of the pieces they’ll be playing.

[JR: A great radio voice. Considering this is mostly a silent medium. Other than the clack of keys being punched! Thought it was interesting even if there's no going for me. Maybe you will.]

[JR: Interesting from a technical pov, you can't link directly to the PSA. It's embedded Flash. Interesting since everything on the net tries to be as "linkable" as possible so you can get "buzz". Hmm, why would someone do this or why did Google's Blogger software permit it. Interesting?]

POSITRACTION: “second-highest cause of blindness”, $2 plastic, and a phone

This new system, called NETRA (Near-Eye Tool for Refractive Assessment), is a project of the MIT Media Lab’s Camera Culture research group. A small plastic device—which currently can be produced for less than $2 (US)—is easily clipped onto a mobile phone screen. To use it, simply hold the device up to the eye, look into it, and use the phone’s keypad until two patterns overlap. This is repeated several times per eye, with the patterns at different angles. The whole process takes about two minutes, during which time software loaded onto the phone computes and provides the data needed to create a prescription.

The small size and low cost of the device makes it especially well-suited for use in the developing world. As many as two billion people worldwide have refractive errors of the eye, and according to the World Health Organization, these errors, left uncorrected, are the world’s second-highest cause of blindness. This is just the beginning of the many ways technology innovation will fill in the gaps in health service, placing our health literally in our hands.

Wow, “second-highest cause of blindness”!

Detectible by $2 piece of plastic and a cell phone.

This is an impressive gift to humanity.

What is “society” waiting for?

I’m continually stunned at how smart some folks are.

That’s ingineering!

ENDNOTE: Ever wonder what could have been?

http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/vatican-daily-remembers-steve-jobs-as-visionary-of-technology-and-art

Vatican daily remembers Steve Jobs as ‘visionary’ of technology and art

*** begin quote ***

Rome, Italy, Oct 6, 2011 / 04:19 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- The Vatican daily L’Osservatore Romano remembered Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple, as a “visionary who united technology and art.”

The newspaper underscored that Jobs, who died at age 56 on Oct. 5 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer, “was one of the leaders and symbols of the Silicon Valley revolution.”

This revolution was also one of “habits, mentalities and culture. A revolution that was an offshoot, but not an heir, of the lax ‘70s”

Jobs “was a visionary who united technology and art. True, he wasn’t a technician or an entrepreneur. He was not a designer or a mathematician. Neither was he the typical nerd or showman. Was he a pirate or a pioneer? History will be the judge. In the meantime, his genius creations remain with us,” L’Osservatore Romano said.

From “unwanted pregnancy” to genius

Steve Jobs was born on Feb. 24, 1955. He was given up for adoption by his mother Joanne Simpson because of her father’s opposition to her relationship with Jobs’ Syrian father, Abdulfattah John Jandali.

Joanne and Abdulfattah eventually married after the death of her father. They had a daughter and tried to get their son back but it was legally impossible.

*** end quote ***

And, the rest was history.

Now factor in the Culture of Death, where unwanted children are “prevented”, or even more horrific, murdered.

Where have all the other “Steve Jobs” gone?

What miracles have “we” deprived ourselves of by stupidity?

Think of every human, who was ever unwanted or “defective”, yet made their contribution.

I just shake my head and wonder what could have been?

[JR: Amazing. Would have been nice to see it in real life and experience it. I think I spent near a decade of my life there. Not in the bars; although some might dispute that claim. In and around that intersection for more time than I care to have. Argh! If I ever become like the Canterbury Ghost, I guess this would be my venue. Thanks for the "ride". Hope you don't mine my sharing it with the world.]
