Dr. Laura Martorello
Class of 1988
Dr. Laura Martorello is a 1988 graduate of Manhattan College where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education with a concentration in Pre-Physical Therapy. She then received a Master’s of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Long Island University in 1992 and a Doctor of Physical Education degree with an emphasis in Biomechanics and Administration from Springfield College in 1997. She is a licensed Physical Therapist in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York.
Laura has extensive clinical experience as a physical therapist in home care and also in therapy with mentally and physically disabled persons. In addition, she has been involved in four colleges/universities as a professor in Physical Therapy education programs. She also served as director or associate director in two of these programs. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Division of Physical Therapy at American International College in Springfield Massachusetts. She lives in Connecticut with her one-and-a-half year-old daughter, Antonia.
Dr. Martorello has published in peer-reviewed journals and made several presentations at scientific and professional conferences. She has also organized and conducted several continuing educational workshops. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance and is on the Board of National Advisors for the National Fitness Trainers Association.
Because of her excellent clinical, administrative, research and teaching experience, Dr. Laura Martorello is most deserving of the Department of Physical Education and Human Performance’s Distinguished Service Award. Congratulations Dr. Martorello!
