The 1/24/13 Edition of Catholic New York at page 19 has the following note:
MANHATTAN COLLEGE STUDENTS PREPARING TAXES
Manhattan College business students are working with the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to provide free tax preparation services to residents of the Bronx.
This is the fourth year the students have teamed up with VITA. The volunteers will be at the Refuge House in the Fordham Bedford section of the Bronx, and also work with University Neighborhood Housing Program, Fordham Bedford Community Services and Ariva Inc.
The VITA program is available for Families and individuals with incomes of $50,000 or less.
In addition to assisting the Bronx residents, the student volunteers gain valuable accounting experience. All volunteer students must complete an IRS certification program. Some 30 students are participating this year.
The tax preparation services will be available for qualified residents on select Wednesdays and Saturdays through April, by appointment, at the Refuge House, 2715 Bainbridge Ave., the Bronx. Information: (718) 933-2539.
An another example of JASPERS giving back to the community.
