John Ansbro, longtime Yonkers resident, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013. He was 80 years old. John was born in New York City on November 16, 1932 to Thomas and Catherine (Reilly) Ansbro and attended Saint Elizabeth Elementary School and Cathedral Prep High School studying for nine years in the Seminary system for the Archdiocese of New York. Though he was not ordained, after obtaining a doctorate in Philosophy at Fordham University, he taught philosophy to seminarians at Cathedral College for over three decades. At the same time, he taught part time at Fordham University and full time at Manhattan College as chair of the philosophy department. Dr. Ansbro was extremely generous to and raised money for the missionary work of the Church.
He is survived by his brother, Monsignor Francis J. Ansbro of Assumption Church in Peekskill. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at Assumption Church in Peekskill on Monday, April 8, 2013 at 10:00 AM. The interment will take place immediately after at Assumption Cemetery in Cortlandt Manor. Visiting will be at the Dorsey-Carlone Funeral Home, 1100 Cortlandt Street, Peekskill on Sunday, April 7 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
