Subject: new Obama shirt
To one and all: The Presidential election is almost upon us, and it’s not too late to stock up on Obama or McCain shirts from the Jerry Breen boutique - that is, my online store at cafepress.com . Check out all of the colorful designs at http://www.cafepress.com/newbreen . Here’s my latest design - “Obama Rocks!” I was looking at the Obama campaign logo one day when I noticed that the flag stripes coming out of the blue “O” almost looked like a tongue coming out of a mouth - which reminded me of a popular logo for a certain “World’s Greatest Rock’n'Roll Band”. I think you’ll agree that nothing says “Obama Rocks!” better than this graphic. Of course, you can also check it out on my website at www.newbreen.com or www.jerrybreen.com , as usual. I’ll have more news in a week or two. Thanks, Jerry

Obama
John: In this cartoon, I tried to give brief summaries of some of the key formative figures in Barack Obama’s background. Quite a group. And I didn’t even have room for the Reverend Wright. But you all know about him. These people are lesser known, but just as important in making Obama who he is today. - Jerry Breen www.newbreen.com

John: Here’s another cartoon, summing up the “Democratic” Party nomination process. Hillary Clinton got 18 million votes in the primaries - more than any Presidential candidate in American history, but she “lost” the nomination to Obama! How? Well, Hillary got 85% of her delegates in primaries, while Obama got 60% of his delegates in caucuses. Several states held both primary elections and caucuses. In every case, Hillary won the election and Obama won the caucus. How can the same voters in the same state choose 2 different candidates? Simply put, a primary election with the secret ballot is a safe, secure way to vote, while a caucus is a disorderly free-for-all, easily subject to fraud, coercion and mob rule. Obama’s camp used every means available - legal and illegal - to steal the caucuses. Even in the primaries, the apportioning of delegates was not actually proportionate to the actual vote, and technicalities ended up awarding Obama a disproportionate number of delegates. The result was a travesty and an injustice. The Democratic Party should either overhaul its nominating process, or change their name. To call it the Democratic Party is false advertising. - Jerry Breen

John: Here’s my latest cartoon, which I predict will explode all over the blogosphere! It’s a follow-up to my most popular political cartoon, “Obama Been Lyin’ “. In that one, published way back in July 2007, I wondered why Obama was so evasive and misleading about his childhood in Indonesia. Here’s the answer - Obamaman is hiding his secret identity!
Thanks again for all your help, Jerry

Subject: Jerry’s new book cover
To one and all: I may have mentioned it to some of you already, but this week is the publication date for a new book called “Barack Obama Is Your New Bicycle”. The publishers apparently “googled” the Barack Obama cartoons out there on the internet, and chose one of mine to grace the cover. (See sample below.) The author, Mathew Honan, is a computer tech reporter from San Francisco, and a veteran blogger. His wife, an avid cyclist, became a fervent Obama campaign volunteer - with an enthusiasm she usually reserved for a new bicycle. Hence the title.
Honan decided to put together a whimsical website spoofing people’s sometimes irrational rapture over Obama, and it became an internet sensation. So Penguin approached Honan about putting the website out as “hard copy” (in book form). The book is available this week at local bookstores everywhere. You can order it online from http://www.bordersstores.com (Borders Books), http://www.barnesandnoble.com or directly from the publisher at http://us.penguingroup.com . I’ll keep you posted on more news. Thanks again for your interest, Jerry

John: Here’s a new cartoon (I’ll try to get them to you on a more regular basis from now on). It’s equal time for the Republicans this time, with John McCain. Lately, the reporters seem to ask everybody, including politicians, “What’s on your iPod?” Surprisingly, most of them, including Obama and even old grey George W., actually do have iPods and give a list of their favorite tracks. Except John McCain. He really is a relic from another era. He actually grew up mostly in the age of radio, and admits that he never touches a computer keyboard. So I tried to imagine his answer to that inevitable question, “What’s on your iPod?” Jerry Breen www.newbreen.com

John: My latest Obama caricature is not really a political cartoon.
Some folks in Oregon hired me to do the face of Obama for a new “product” - really a gag gift - called “OBAMAir”. Their company usually sells bags of frozen food. Now they’re offering bags of Obama’s own breath, captured at some of his recent campaign stops and packaged for mass consumption, at $10 a bag! (I’m told that in the event of a “water landing”, it can be used as a flotation device.) You can buy them online at their website, www.obamair.com . Check it out; it’s
hilariously funny. - Jerry Breen (Jasper ‘71)

John: Here’s a new cartoon featuring that roving flower-child-without-portfolio, Jimmy Carter. (When Robert Risko replied to my email, he apparently inadvertently sent it to everyone on that mailing list. Sorry about that. I took your address out of that file, and I’ll email you separately in the future.) I’m sketching some ideas for the “Jasper Jottings” logo, and I’ll send them in the next few days. After that period in February when our business abruptly dried up, things suddenly revived at the beginning of March and it’s been okay since then. I think I’ve managed to raise our visibility on the web enough that things won’t ever get that bad again. Thanks for
your help. Sincerely, Jerry Breen
