Rachele Testa and Christian Schaefers met over 10 years ago while attending Manhattan College in Riverdale, New York. It was not love at first sight for the couple. They shared many mutual friends and would bump into each other at parties or around the Business School. They never truly knew one another or had any other feelings until Halloween 2006 when one of their mutual friends threw a Halloween bash.

Christian looked dapper as ever in a Phantom of the Opera costume and Rachele was a fierce kitty cat. The two locked eyes, that night, and he turned to her and said, “Hey girl, you look good tonight.” Rachele saw him in a new light and the next day he called her to ask her out to lunch at Jakes Steak House. The two have been inseparable since.

After dating for six years, Christian proposed. Since the two were dating for so many years, Rachele had been imagining and anticipating her proposal forever! The two took a fabulous trip to Costa Rica for Thanksgiving in 2012 and Rachele for sure thought this was the trip. After the proposal did not happen on their vacation, she was totally bummed. Two days after the trip, Christian caught her off guard and proposed in their New York City apartment.

Rachele belonged to the Parish of St. Francis Xavier so she always knew it would be the place she would get married. For their reception, they had a specific vision in mind and wanted a raw loft space to fit their unique personalities. So, they choose Studio 450, in their hometown of Manhattan. The planning process was intense because they literally had to create the entire vibe and event aesthetic. They wanted to have a wedding that was modern yet chic, warm and romantic.

The wedding took place on Friday, June 13th. The weather was fickle with waves of rain and sunshine throughout the day. When Rachele left the hotel, on her way to St. Francis, the rain finally dissipated and everyone was smiling ear to ear as she arrived in a custom Angel Sanchez silk faille gown with embroidery from France.

To add to the vision, Rachele held a cascading orchid bouquet mixed with peonies and English roses. Her father was starting to get very emotional asking her over and over if she was “Ready.” She turned to him and said, “Dad, I love you, and now are you ready?” Finally, gulping down their emotions, they proceeded down the long aisle.

Rachele never took her eyes off of Christian, as she walked toward him. The ceremony was traditional Catholic. During their first kiss, Christian picked his bride up, sweeping her off her feet. The guests went wild, cheering and clapping. As they exited, it was completely down pouring; the newlyweds just froze and looked back at all their family and friends.

After their photographer took photos of them, the couple proceeded to Studio 450 for their robust cocktail hour. They decorated the venue with various arrangements in large black vases with dogwood, blueberry and eremurus as well as mirrored vases with peony, jasmine, English roses, clematis, geranium, oregano and Queen Anne’s lace creating a very chic yet organic floral scape. The colors they chose were white, taupe, silver, grey and black.

Guests enjoyed a five-tier cake custom-filled with banana and strawberry buttercream. The couple’s first dance was to John Legend’s “All of Me” with the last 2 minutes being the Tiesto mix. This set the tone for the entire evening. The couple’s motto was, “CAN’T STOP, WON’T STOP.”

Rachele and Christian spent their honeymoon at The Gansevoort in Turks and Caicos and will be heading to Italy for part two in the fall.

Christine and Eric’s Christmas Ornament Proposal

*** begin quote ***

How We Met: Eric and I met on the last night of orientation at Manhattan College in August of 2009. Eric was starting as a freshman and I had transferred from community college. We both actually lived in the same hometown within 3 minutes from each other, but never met before college.

*** and ***

We arrived about 20 minutes early to dinner, so we walked by the river admiring the beautiful view of downtown Tampa. At a certain point in our walk, Eric stops and reaches into his pocket to give me a small Christmas gift. We had exchanged Christmas gifts right before we left for dinner, so I was confused. He then says “I have one more gift I would like to give you. We talked about creating our own tradition, so I want this to be our first tradition that we will continue each year.” I start opening the gift and notice that its an ornament. I immediately see the words ‘We’re engaged!’ and start crying! It was happening! He got down on one knee and it was the most magical moment!

JOY: Colantonio, Tracey [MC2010] and Llewellyn, John [MC2011] to wed

Our “short story”…

In the fall of 2008, John enrolled at Manhattan College on a whim the week before classes started, where Tracey was entering her Junior year. Because all classes were full, the school enrolled him in the only classes left that had space. With Tracey in the school of education and John in the school of business, the only chance to cross paths would be an English class. Luckily. the stars aligned and they both happened to be in the same section of “Short Stories.” With Tracey diligently taking notes up front, and John peacefully sleeping in the back, needless to say, her heavy assistance to him was required come exam times. Tracey being a soccer player, and John, a “lacrosse-bro,” perhaps they were meant to be, but after that semester, they were inseparable. Four apartments, a 90 lb. pit bull, and tons of graduate school later, John proposed to Tracey on November 1st, 2014 along the East River in New York City. Now they prepare to begin their lifelong journey together. Currently residing in Stamford, Connecticut with their lovable dog Bronx, Tracey works in Manhattan at Hospital for Special Surgery as a Physical Therapist, and John works in Connecticut, brokering the fuel that is used by cargo and cruise ships. They couldn’t be happier and more excited to spend their life together and are looking forward to celebrating their first night of marriage with family and friends!

JOY: Hoos, Katie [MC????] and Kyle, Trenholm [MC????] engaged

Katie and Kyle
December 5, 2015 in Yonkers, NY, United States

Our StoryHow We Met (according to Katie)

It’s hard to pin down the exact moment Kyle and I met… we both have varying accounts and we crossed paths a few times during our college years. But once we did “meet” and started dating, he quickly became impossible to forget.

2007: Freshman year

Standing in line for dinner at one of the Manhattan College cafeteria’s, I saw a (handsome) guy with a Fighting Irish tattoo on his arm, and since my brother was a student at Notre Dame, I asked him if it was related to the University. Maybe he was hungry or secretly hates the Irish, but Kyle wanted nothing to do with me. He brushed off my question, saying it wasn’t Notre Dame related and walked away.

2008: Sophomore Year

Wing night at the local bar. A group of friends and I went for some beers and wings at Piper’s Kilt on 231st St when Kyle introduced himself as our server. He was chatty and friendly, but we barely spoke other than me giving him my order. A few weeks later, he added me on Facebook. Guess he thought I was cute.

2009: Junior Year

After having a few too many drinks with my gal pal (and bridesmaid, Meg) at her beach house, I messaged Kyle on Facebook. We started chatting regularly and by Columbus Day weekend, we decided to go out. After a few dates to Untermyer Park & Gardens in Yonkers and the now-closed Mina’s Pizzeria in Ardsley, Kyle asked me to be his girlfriend and I happily accepted.

We’ve been laughing together ever since.

The Proposal

It was my 25th birthday and a proposal was the furthest thing from my mind.

We had discussed getting engaged for some time, but since we were both new at our jobs and were trying to stabilize our finances, I had mentally put off an engagement until at least the following year.

Even though a coworker joked around all day saying Kyle was going to propose, I brushed it off.
Kyle picked me up on the corner by my office and we drove downtown for dinner at Giardino D’Oro, an Italian restaurant in the Financial District.

After dinner, Kyle said he had another surprise and I assumed we’d be getting dessert…I’m so glad it wasn’t.

When we got to the entrance of the Brooklyn Bridge, Kyle said he knew that’s where we could catch my favorite view of the Manhattan skyline, so he wanted to walk the bridge for my birthday.

Still clueless, we walked to the first lookout point and I was blown away by the night skyline. I turn around to ask Kyle to borrow his phone to take a picture when he started nervously proposing. He got down on one knee, pulled out the most beautiful ring and asked me to spend my life with him.
In between tears and laughter, I said “yes.”
