I am not sure what Class Joe Zeitler graduated with, but the four Track Legends that were mentioned in the article are all members of the Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Fame. They are: Edgar “Howie” Borck,’38, Robert Conkling,’39, George Sheehan,’40 and Andy Neidnig,’41. So we can assume that Joe was probably in one of these later Classes.

Alfred DiNapoli Sr.

DiNAPOLI, ALFRED E., SR.

Alfred E. DiNapoli Sr., age 95, of Milford, died December 6, 2011 in Milford Health Care.

Alfred was the beloved husband of 68 years to the late Dorothea Guilfoyle DiNapoli, who past away almost a year ago to the day. He was born in New York City on October 17, 1916, son of the late Pasquale & Mary Francis Bongo DiNapoli.

He was a longtime resident of the Bronx and Yonkers before recently moving to Milford. Alfred was a graduate of Manhattan College and received a Bachelors Degree in Science. He was a decorated Army Air Force Veteran of WWII, twice recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Mr. DiNapoli was a retired Deputy Clerk for the New York State Supreme Court, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Past Commander of the New York Supreme Court American Legion Post 1062, and Past President of the New York Catholic Court Attachs Guild.

Survivors include his devoted sons, Alfred E. Jr. and his wife Susan and Don and his wife Anne Sheehy and a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces & nephews and great grand nieces & nephews.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2011 in the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St. Milford from 4-7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Thursday at 11:00 am directly in St. Mary Church Milford. Interment will be private.

Sister Severine Lancucka, 100, died Saturday December 3rd at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent Monroe.

Sister Severine, the former Eleanore Lancucka, was the eighth of eleven children born to Constantine and Alexandra (Wisniewska) Lancucki. Sister grew up in Maspeth, New York and attended the parish elementary school. It was here at Holy Cross School that Eleanor met the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth. Upon graduation from eighth grade, Sister Severine entered Nazareth Academy in Torresdale, PA and upon graduation entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth.

Sister earned a BA degree in Theology from Manhattan College and was then assigned to teach at St. Stanislaus Kostka School, Brooklyn, NY. Sister went on to teach at Our Lady of Czestochowa School, Philadelphia, PA; St. Stanislaus, New Haven, CT; St Joseph School, Lincoln Park and St. Stephen School, Paterson, NJ; St. Joseph School, Ansonia, CT; Holy Trinity School, Utica, NY and Our Lady of Czestochowa School, Brooklyn, NY.

Sister retired from the classroom in 1983 but continued to serve as convent sacristan until 2001 when Sister Severine retired and subsequently moved to Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent, Monroe, CT.

On September 12, 2011 surrounded by many of her family members, Sister Seventine celebrated her 100th birthday.

Sister is survived by her nieces Aurelia Arpino, Evelyn Glibowska, Arlene Jezykowski, Arlene Kershaw and Dolores Przybysz; her nephews Lawrence Lancucki, Frank Kwapniewski and Richard Lancucki; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday December 7th at 11:00 AM at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent, Monroe. Interment will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery on the Convent grounds. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday December 6th from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the Convent. John J. Finn

Finn, John J.

John J. Finn, a long time resident of West Nyack, NY, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully with his family by his side on December 2, 2011 at the age of 83. John proudly served in the US Navy on the USS Princeton and USS Bennington during WWII.

John was born in NYC, the third of four children to Patrick and Julia (Morrison) Finn on April 2, 1928. John attended Cardinal Hayes HS and Manhattan College, earning a degree in finance. In the early 40′s he was a golden glove finalist at Madison Square Garden.

John married the love of his life, Phoebe Bristol in 1951. They were happily married for 60 years.

In addition to spending time with his family, John loved history, nature, boating, racing in regattas, reading and technology. His love for computers and technology was as big as the day is long and kept him sharp until the end. He was also an officer at the Nyack Boat Club.

John is survived by his loving wife Phoebe, his daughters Diane Rose (Richard), Carol Finn, Susan Verrico (Ernest) and Nancy DeNapoli (Robert). Brother James Finn and wife Geraldine. Grandchildren Tracy Marta, Travis J. May, Suzanne Penn (Scott), Daniel May, Joseph Verrico, Thomas Verrico and Christine Rose. Great grandchildren Peter and Jack Marta and Hailey Penn.

Amanda Cromwell invited us to help lead a project to create a mural beneath Founders Bridge. We agreed that the mural should be a project open to the entire campus community. With that in mind we discussed an idea about creating a giant tree composed of students’/faculty’s hands. She would like to get the project underway in April.

John J. Powers

John J. Powers, 88, of Marietta, passed peacefully November 30, with his family at his side.

Born on Staten Island, NY, John graduated from St. Peter’s High School. His education at Manhattan College was interrupted when his entire class enlisted in the armed forces during World War II. John served as a Navy pilot on an aircraft carrier and after his discharge graduated from Hobart College.

In 1950 John was recruited by the United States Secret Service and rejoined his country’s service as a commissioned USSS special agent. He had the honor of protecting U.S. presidents and the families of Presidents Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon. John served as assistant to the special agent in charge of the New York office until his retirement.

John was predeceased by his three siblings, Alice Garrity, Katherine Smith and William Powers. A beloved husband, father and grandfather, John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ellen Kathleen Powers; four children, John (Olga) of Marcellus, Edward of Chinatown, NYC, Michael (Sharon) of Dana Point, CA, and Mary (Robert) Kuzmeski of Hadley, MA; nine grandchildren, Mary and Julie Powers, Colin, Daniel, Dennis and Sarah Powers, and Kathleen, John and Kevin Kuzmeski; one brother, Richard of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Saturday at Ryan Funeral Home, 44 E. Main Street, Marcellus. Services will follow 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home, and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. in St. Francis Xavier Church, Marcellus. Davis, Robert , 62 a lifetime resident of Yonkers, NY, passed away on November 20, 2011, at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, NY after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Robert was born in Yonkers, on October 31, 1949, he was the son of the late Catherine and Harold Davis.

A graduate of Manhattan College. Robert worked in the construction industry. He was a talented athlete in his youth, and he had a lifelong passion for a wide range of intellectual pursuits.

He is survived by his long time, beloved companion, Rita Doak. He is also survived by his sisters, Alice Heusinger of Hopewell Junction NY, Carol (Joseph) Kotash of Ossining, NY. Arlene (John) McGrath of Yorktown Heights, NY, and his brother Dr. Daniel (Leonie) of Stonybrook, NY. Also survived by five nieces and three nephews.

WESTWOOD — The council president and a former mayor are hoping to unseat the current mayor in a battle to run the borough.

Democratic incumbent John Birkner faces challenges from Republican Council President Robert Miller, as well as Thomas Wanner, an independent who was Westwood’s mayor from 2004 to 2007.

Wanner was critical of the current administration for “debt spending without any consideration on how those expenses will affect taxpayers down the road.” He said he will try to ensure taxes don’t go up.

As for flooding, the former mayor said he tried to acquire a permit in 2007 “to dredge a portion of the Pascack Brook and start the process of cleaning out the brook in sections.” He was unclear as to the status of the permit. He would continue those efforts.

“I tend to be a very passionate person,” said Wanner, a business consultant who helps restore troubled companies.

He, too, will work to get the hospital opened again. “There needs to be more aggressive action in bringing this hospital back,” he said.

He went on to hold positions of increasing responsibility in engineering, network planning, marketing, public affairs and government relations at New York Telephone, NYNEX, Bellcore and Bell Atlantic. In 2005, Allan was named president of Verizon Delaware and assumed responsibility for Verizon’s public policy initiatives in the state.

Allan is the vice chair of the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce, and he serves on the boards of the Christiana Care Health System Visiting Nurse Association, the Delaware Business Roundtable and the Delaware Association of Nonprofit Agencies. Allan also is on the Delaware P-20 Council and until recently was the board chair of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League. He also serves on the Christiana Care Health System Board of Trustees.

Allan graduated from Manhattan College with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and from New York University with a master’s degree in business administration.

Organizational changes resulting from Allan’s retirement will be determined at a later date.

Jeanne O’Brien

O’Brien, Jeanne Marie Dosso

Jeanne Marie Dosso O’Brien passed away on October 24, 2011 at the age of 80. She was a long time resident of Yonkers, NY. She is survived by three children, James O’Brien, Thomas O’Brien and Jeanne Cappello. She was the proudest grandmother of seven children, Anthony, Alexandra and John Cappello, Megan and Joseph O’Brien, Patrick and Molly O’Brien. Jeanne O’Brien attended Roosevelt High School, received her bachelor degree from The College of Mt. St. Vincent and her Masters from Manhattan College. She taught for two decades at St. Phillip of Neri Elementary School in the Bronx and continued as a resource teacher in her parish school of St. Paul the Apostle in Yonkers for another ten years.

Visiting hours will be held at Hodder Funeral Home, located at 899 McLean Ave., Yonkers, NY (914)237-5800 on Friday, November 28th from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, November 29th at St. Paul the Apostle, 602 McLean Avenue, Yonkers, NY. In lieu of flowers, her family is requesting donations to be made in her name to The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.
