PRAYERSREQUESTED: Colon, Philip J. (MC1962) cites Bethlehem University / Gaza Strip

2014-Jul-25

Good Morning All,

Tom McCarthy has asked for our prayers for our Graduates, Brothers, employees and students at Bethlehem University on the Gaza Strip. Tom has met and spoken with some of them and shares that it is times like these that they need our prayers more than ever. As some of them reside on the Gaza Strip there are no doubt some that reside on the Israel side and clearly impacted by the incoming Rockets. There are stories there that have not surfaced and we pray for the safety of them as well. Please keep them in your prayers as we pray for reason and God’s Love to prevail. Thank you Tom. God Bless.

Dear Graduates, Friends and Supporters of Bethlehem University,

The war in Gaza rages on, and Bethlehem University can only offer prayers for the people of Gaza and its 435 graduates, many of whom have been hiding in their homes, schools, mosques and in churches since the start of this offensive. Many more have no place to hide, but on the streets where as reported the stench of death kills.

We are very concerned about our graduates in Gaza as many have not responded to our contacts through social media and phone.

We are very lucky to have received as Bethlehem University many messages inquiring about our safety here in Bethlehem. For all of you, we say THANK YOU, but do remember us and our graduates in Gaza in your prayers.

Team members of the Advancement Office at Bethlehem University have been able to connect with several of our graduates.

Rana Al-Sayegh, BU’99, with her 4 children were hiding in the corridor of her flat when we rang her yesterday morning. “I am not sure how to keep my children safe, several buildings around me where all brought to the ground… I am so worried, but happy that you called me,” Rana said and has asked we pray for them.

Our Vice Chancellor, Brother Peter Bray, was able to speak over the phone to the mother of Berlanty Azzam, a BU Graduate of 2010, who is currently working in the US. Berlanty was not allowed to continue her studies at Bethlehem University by the Israeli Authority simply because she came from Gaza, but Bethlehem University enabled her to graduate through distance learning while in Gaza.

Berlanty’s mother asked Brother Peter to pray for her and her family. “Our lives are unbearable, we are very scared, and several houses in our neighborhood have completely vanished”.

Mohammed Abu Hawila, BU ’89, who is an UNRWA School Deputy Principal in Gaza City, told us that while his immediate family is safe, several of his friends have perished, and many more have been seriously injured. He told us: “a lot of people moved to live in the school classes where I work. As many as 60 people are living in a small room in a very difficult situation, may God help them.”

To all our graduates in the Gaza Strip, we are praying for you and hope this will come to an end very soon.

To all our friends and supporters, we ask you to pray for the people of Gaza at these hard times, and we also ask you to pray for us so that Bethlehem University may continue to be a “Beacon of Hope and an Oasis of Peace” in this Holy, but troubled Land.

Brother Stephen Tuohy
Vice President for Advancement

PRAYERSREQUESTED: Colon, Philip J. (MC1962) reports a success

2014-Jul-12

Good Evening All,

A heart felt thank you to each of you from Dave Ellis who has been in our prayers.

Dave says, Thank you all for your thoughtful prayers. They worked!

My second cataract procedure went very well yesterday. For the first time since I was 5 years old, I am able to see without glasses. I attended 9 AM mass this morning, and found that the entire church was alive with vivid colors and so much more in-focus. It was wonderful to see.

God guided the hands of my surgeon in accordance with your prayers. I am grateful that things turned out so well. And I am grateful to have friends who prayed on my behalf.

Take care and God bless you all.

…Dave

Thank you. God Bless.

JEMAIL: Colon, Philip J. (MC1962) adds a Jasper’s Mom

2014-Jul-10

Good Morning All,

I have just heard from Matt as he shares the sad news of the Passing of Matt’s Mom, Adelaide Donohue. The loss of this special lady will be felt by and sadden so many. Some of you know that she was part of a long line of Manhattan College Alums. Mother to Four of them and very proud of it. Matt and his Mother had bought adjoining coop apartments in Riverdale’s Skyview a few weeks ago and we moved most of her furniture and bulk items this past Sunday when any of us last saw her. I was on the phone with her the night of July 4th picking up some items at the grocery on my way out to Southampton. I arrived in the house about ½ hour later and didn’t disturb her per her wishes. I found her in her room the next morning. As Matt says “Needless to say we and especially Mom and myself are in need of prayers.”

Matt is very grateful for your prayers and good thoughts. Please keep Mrs. Donohue and her Family in your prayers as the Family suffers the loss of this good woman. We pray that the Family finds peace in the sure knowledge that she is in God’s loving Eternal Embrace in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Below is further information regarding Services.

Thank you. God Bless.
