A section for those of us who believe that prayer works for what ever reason regardless of to whom it is addressed.

PRAYERREQUESTED: A Jasper’s child update

*** begin quote ***

still has her nasty cough, especially at night, and it progressed enough that I asked the leukemia team if there was anything we could give her other than the home remedies we were trying. They OK’d her to use a nebulizer twice a day to help relieve the cough. It has helped some, but there is still a way to go. Otherwise, doing well.

*** end quote ***

[JR: OK, Jaspers, do we have a coughing prayer in our archive? With children in these heroic battles, there are no "small problems". These are the times that try ... And, we can throw one in for all the parents of sick children everywhere. It's has to test one's faith.]

PRAYERSREQUESTED: That Jasper’s child

ANC: 1.3 [normal 1.5-8.8] [target range for LTM is 1.0-2.0]

*** and ***

We return for bloodwork next Monday to check her ANC again.

*** end quote ***

[JR: OK, I guess we need the ChemE's to lead us in an ANC prayer. The Jasper's child has really ... moved me.]

PRAYERSREQUESTED: That Jasper’s child

*** begin quote ***

The great news is that Dr. Steinherz came out to see us after the procedures and said that preliminarily, “Everything looks good!” We were delighted! :)   Thank you so much for your continued prayers – they mean so much!

*** end quote ***

[JR: OK, the "sanitary injineers" prayer appeared to have worked. Now we need the ChemE's to pray for propofol to be extra effective. (I'm just making this up. I have no idea of anything after "looks good".) Seriously, with some many children sick, extra prayers are useful. As you can tell, I'm pulling for her. Anyone who likes bad jokes is worth it.]

PRAYER REQUESTED: Jasper’s cousin called home unexpectedly

http://www.tampabay.com/news/humaninterest/boy-who-enjoyed-dolphin-show-dies/1034787

Ailing boy died a day after video visit with dolphin Winter – St. Petersburg Times

*** begin quote ***

Ross Perri’s dream was to swim with dolphins. But the 12-year-old resident of Jericho, Vt., was desperately ill with leukemia, so family members and folks at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, gave him the next best thing.

*** end quote ***

[JR: Sadly, the boy was doing better. I'm sure the family can use our prayers. I don't have the OK to id so as usual I'm just calling your attention to the matter.]

Prayers Requested: A Jasper’s child could use some “help”

FROM THE JASPER WHO’S CHILD IS … … in treatment?

*** begin quote ***

… … returns to Sloan on Monday for her next bone marrow aspirate, lumbar puncture and IV dose of chemo.

*** end quote ***

[JR: OK, Jaspers, let's fire up those rosary beads that Brother's Boys always carry. Some good results would be appreciated. Seems like the "sanitary injineer's prayers" have been effective. Seriously, let's get to work!]

PrayersRequested: A Jasper’s child could use some relief

*** begin quote ***

She continues to get oral chemo every night with a second chemo on Wednesdays. She tolerates it well enough most of the time, but gets nauseous in the mornings about once a week. Her tummy issues aren’t obsolete and she often has pain, constipation and bloating, but are manageable enough with Miralax.

*** end quote ***

[JR: OK, my fellow Jaspers, we need some prayers for “constipation”. While it may sound flip, this is a little child we are talking about. So, I think we should be willing to try anything. And, if it impacts one Jasper’s child, it must impact many children. So, I’m for trying anything. Besides, doesn’t MC have a specialty of “sanitary engineering”?]

PrayersRequested: Jasper’s son going in harm’s way

I know a young man, son of a Jasper, who is going to serve his country. Even now, he’s in Kuwait waiting to go up to Iraq. He’s courageous (does he know the danger?); his Mom does. I’d ask my fellow Jaspers to pray for his safe and uneventful return. And, the return of all the boys and girls regardless of where their parent did or didn’t go to school.

# – # – #

[JR: Without turning this into an endnote, didn't O campaign as the "peace candidate"? I supported Ron Paul who was the true "peace candidate". Only politicians should go fight. "Dona Nobis Pacem"! Not a minute too soon for all young men and young women.]

PRAYERREQUESTED: Do we have a “headache” prayer?

*** begin quote ***

“Not like something bumped it; it just hurts” I grew a tad nervous since those two symptoms together are what they tell me to be on the lookout for

*** end quote ***

OK, Jaspers, we need some more specific “prayer action” for our fellow Jasper’s daughter.

Now as an injineer, the only headaches I’m familiar with were Prof Zia’s exams and hangovers, the prayers used for them — they usually ended with a lame promise “never again” — are probably not appropriate for this case. But, I’m sure you can find one that’s suitable for cute little girl who caught the … … “soiled” end of the stick. And, doesnt’ complain like I would.

May I have a “headache” prayer?

PRAYERREQUESTED: “Bad bug” prayer requested

*** begin quote ***

has progressed to quite a nasty cough and high fever (102.7 F). We spent a good part of Sunday in Urgent Care where she received IV antibiotics and fluids.

*** and ***

also gets her bone marrow aspirate, lumbar puncture, and next dose of vincristine at the next visit. So the prayers remain for continued remission!!

*** end quote ***

[JR:The daughter of our fellow alum is in need of our robust Jasper prayers again. (I can't envision how this works. But, it must somehow.) I don't know that we have a specific organ to target, but let's have a "BAD BUG" prayer for this little girl.]

PRAYERREQUESTED: MC Alum’s daughter doing better

*** begin quote ***

In the meantime, Caitlin has been doing really well. Seriously. I find myself smiling more when people ask me how she is doing. We are apparently reaping the rewards of all the extra prayers people said during the Easter season! I don’t give the token “She’s coming along” response anymore. It’s amazing. We will see if this is too good to be true or not when we return for counts and chemo next week.

*** end quote ***

[JR: Let's keep "pouring it on". Don't know what kind of prayer to ask for (i.e., appetite prayer; colon prayer; stomach prayer); so let's focus on "more of the same" prayer. Feels nice to be able to joke about it.]
