Hi there! Thanks for the “shout out” on Jasper Jottings! Just thought you should know that my husband, Michael Martin, is also a Jasper – class of `98! He is the one who competed in the Spartan Race and it was AMAZING! Intense is the only word I can think of!

Especially when on deadline. Thanks for the admonishing reminder. Hmmm, and if he's such a runner, how'd you manage to capture him? ROFL! When I was at MC, the emphasis on track was explained as that was the only way a Jasper could catch a gal. Of course there were corollaries that are not suitable for publication and they're best left to the imagination. That way they'll be even funnier by omission.]

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and THIS SATURDAY is when Mike is competing in the Super Spartan Race in Staten Island!! He is competing on behalf of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC)’s own Fred’s Team, and donations will go towards pediatric cancer research. I am so proud of Mike, and his fellow competitor AJ Falco, as they are the first people competing in the Spartan Race on behalf of Fred’s Team! MSKCC contacted Mike, and I’m excited to announce that Fred’s Team has come on board as a sponsor for the Super Spartan Race this year, and will be staffing a booth at the finish line. One of the obstacles, the Traverse Wall, will be painted ORANGE for Fred’s Team and have some of their signage too! We are all so excited about the newly forged relationship between Fred’s Team and the Super Spartan Race. I told Mike what a difference I feel he has made already just by helping these two organizations team up!

Coach Ann Karine, one of the Fred’s Team running coaches, wrote an article for the Examiner about the Super Spartan Race and interviewed Mike to grab a quote about why he continues to fundraise and why he chose the Super Spartan Race:

For those of you wondering, the Spartan Race is an 8 mile mud run with 15+ obstacles. The competitors do not know in advance what the obstacles will be, but past ones have included rope climb, barbed wire crawl, etc. CRAZY!

Mike is about $900 away from his goal! If your means permit, please click on the link and help him reach his goal! Many thanks to those of you who have already donated and supported this great cause that is so near and dear to our hearts.

As far as race details, it is this Saturday, September 24th at 9AM at Wolfe’s Pond Park Preserve in Staten Island, NY. If you are free, PLEASE come join our family as we cheer Mike and AJ on.
