ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT “Gran Torino” Eastwood’s Answer to American Racism

Very seldom does a film come along that makes you question yourself more than any psychedelic drug could ever twist your brain. “Gran Torino” reminds you that Asians only ride around in Japanese-made cars with automatic guns and bad tattoos, that the stereotypical black American has less respect for a female than terrorists do for innocent life, and that chewing tobacco is the dirtiest habit of any bigoted white man.

All girls and women will receive free admission and a free poster at the Lady Jaspers’ regionally televised game against Iona at Draddy Gymnasium on Monday, February 9.

NGWSD is celebrated in all 50 states and honors the achievements of girls and women in sports, while also encouraging participation. JFound: Another report about “manhattan college” students

http://groups.google.com/group/revivalpraying/browse_thread/thread/87f03094c7defae9?pli=1

*** begin quote ***

All the people whose homes we worked on were already believers. However among the other teams that stayed at the Galveston Bible Church where we were staying was a group of young people from Manhattan College who were all Catholics. This was very unusual. They found out about EFCA Crisis Response through the Internet. God gave us opportunity to witness and share our testimonies with them -one and one, and also during the morning devotion time. They were extremely receptive and actually they were the ones who first approached us with questions concerning our beliefs. The conversations about the Lord and the Bible that I personally had with some of them were very rewarding. Wonderful seeds were planted. Many of them testified that this trip was a life changing experience for them.

It never ceases to amaze me the lessons and experiences that God gives me each time I go on these outreaches. While I go with the intention to bless others, I myself always return being blessed instead.

Looking forward to praying with you tomorrow night.

JFound: Twelve Manhattan College students

Margaret Groarke from Bronx NY January 19, 2009 – 10:50AM

Twelve Manhattan College students and I just got back yesterday from a week in New Orleans. We painted houses, delivered welcome baskets to seniors who are just moving back in after Katrina, and made a punch list for the plumbers working on another senior housing complex damaged in the storm.

So I’m spending MLK day recovering from a week of service, and thinking hard about HOW MUCH MORE HELP the people of New Orleans need — from the new administration, and from all of us. I’m thinking about the next time I can organize a trip down to New Orleans.

[JR: Who? We need to give them around of applause. Maybe they might even be Jaspers. Even if they aren't, they deserve a round of applause.]

MFound: MC students sighted doing good works; interesting characterization

Galveston – Day Three (Blustery Winter Day in Texas)

*** begin quote ***

One of the common experiences of short term ministry opportunities is that one seems to see God’s finger prints (some people call them God-sightings) a little easier. It is not the trip that makes God more obvious but the heightened expectancy. One is hearing more about the Lord each day. One is looking more intently for God to show up. One can easily read into events a divine intervention that we might miss dismiss in our life-as-usual routine.

*** and ***

An unexpected part of this ministry is that not all the volunteers are Christ-followers. This is another opportunity. This week there are volunteers from HERSHEY, of course, Illinois, Minnesota, student group from Manhattan College, Olympia,Washington and there is a long term volunteer family from northern Alberta.

*** end quote ***

[JR: Amusing that the author doesn't categorize a group from a Catholic college as NOT being "Christ-followers". An interesting taxonomy at work there!]
