PRAYERSREQUESTED: Colon, Philip J. (MC1962) prays for Patrick

Good Afternoon All,

Below is some information from Ainsley and Gerry regarding the very sad news of Gerry’s Son, Patrick. It is a time for us to raise the volume for Patrick, his Parents, Gerry and Barbara, and his many loving and supportive friends. It is a difficult time for all and we are called upon to raise our voices in prayer for this good man. We pray for recovery, we pray for strength, love and God’s Grace to ease the pain for Patrick and his loved ones. Thank you Ainsley, Thank you all. God Bless.

Good Morning Gerry,

We’re so very sorry to hear about your son. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and your family. I’ve shared your email with Phil Colon ’62, who runs a very large alumni prayer email chain. I have no doubt Phil will share message to this wonderful group of Jaspers to ‘turn the volume up’ for Patrick.

Regarding the Go Fund Me page, I would encourage you or your son-in-law to post the information on the Alumni Facebook wall, and/or the College’s Facebook wall, so members of the College community are aware. Our offices have a policy that prohibits posting about fundraising efforts, but alumni and other members of the community are welcomed and encouraged to do so.

Again, I am so sorry to hear this news.

All my best,

Ainsley T. Kelley

Hello Ainsley,

I’m Gerry Clarke a graduate EE from the class of 1958. My classmate Bob Driscoll from ’58 forwarded me your email address and hence this message.

Approximately 14 months ago, my then 43 year old bachelor son, Patrick (never married) was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. From that day to the present he has been through radiation months of chemo and numerous MRIs to get status of the tumor. During the same time he has been to numerous hospitals and cancer centers including Duke University Cancer Center, the National Institute of Health Cancer clinic and the INOVA Fairfax Cancer Center in Fairfax VA. His most recent MRI in October from NIH showed the tumor has progressed and he has reached the “end stage”. He is now under hospice care coupled with additional care givers providing near round the clock care.

He has an excellent support group from his immediate family and his remarkable loyal cadre of friends.

My son-in-law took it upon himself to connect on the internet with Caring Bridge which is a social network and he set up a post directly sited to Patrick’s needs. There is a link he posted which provides family and extended family and friends an opportunity to assist with prayers and if at all possible financial assistance. Again this “go-fund-me” link was and is a total surprise to Pat’s parents : Barbara and Me.

Below is the link. Bob Driscoll said you may wish to propagate the link to the Manhattan Alumni and other networks at Manhattan.

Here is the link to (Uncle) Pat’s Go Fund Me account. Please share with whomever you’d like:

Update 3

As you’ve probably heard by now, Pat passed away on Monday, November 21 after his battle with brain cancer. While it was a long and difficult struggle over the past 14 months, he ultimately went peacefully and is suffering no more.

Particularly on this Thanksgiving Day, I want to once again thank everyone who has donated to this campaign. In just two weeks we’ve raised $7,650 from 61 people, which is over 75% of the way to our $10,000 goal. This outpouring of generosity has been a huge help to the Clarke family, and I can assure you that the funds are being put to good use.

The costs for Pat’s hospice care and now his funeral services have been real and significant, and I am still hopeful that we can meet our fundraising goal to help ease the burden on Barbara and Gerry during this incredibly difficult time. In that spirit, I will leave this site open for further donations until midnight Sunday. If you have not yet donated, or even if you have and would like to give a bit more, I invite you to do so and to share this site with others.

Let’s let Barbara and Gerry know that we stand with them in their grief, and are here to support them in their hour of need.

Also, in case you haven’t heard, memorial services will be held for Pat on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Details are available at the following link:

God bless you all, and may our dear Pat rest in peace.
