1927 – 2016
Ed, 89, was born 11-17-27 in Newark, NJ, and passed away 11-21-16.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey Kobs Suchicki; sons, Greg Savage (and wife Denise) and Steven Suchicki; grandchildren, Jason Savage, Kelly Frost (and husband Rob), and Natalie Savage; great-grandson, Willie Frost; and sister-in-law, Barbara Cantrell.
Ed attended Manhattan College on a basketball scholarship (‘Big Sooch’), and served in the Army Paratroopers at the end of WWII before returning to complete his BCE.
He had a long and distinguished career as a civil engineer, starting with Edwards & Kelcey in Newark, and then in Houston for 32 years with the Texas Hwy Dept (now TxDOT) and 9 years with Brown & Root (now KBR). He received a number of awards for innovative bridge design and was responsible for many of the distinctive bridges throughout Houston.
Ed married the love of his life, Audrey, in 1956, and soon thereafter settled in her hometown of Houston. He enjoyed (inter alia) tennis, fishing, eating out, telling (and receiving) jokes, and trips to Las Vegas, Lake Charles and Gulf Greyhound Park, with his friends and family.
He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather, who lived a strong Christian life, exuding honesty, integrity and goodness.
