JEMAIL: Toner, Mike (MC1972) asks about Carol King

2017-Jan-30

I went to a wonderful performance – tribute to the music of Carol King last night with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and a trio of Broadway singers. In this week’s JJ item about the upocoming women’s e-zine, you made refernce to the women ignoring “one of the better “story tellers”, Carol King.”

Can you please explain the reference??

Thanks, as always, for your fine efforts as CIC!

[JR: Sure. The Quadrangle posted an article in which the phrase “shame women in storytelling or are ignored altogether” was used. As an old hippie folk singer / writer wanna be, I knew about her LONG BEFORE she was famous. And now the play has made her even more well known. Since “song writers” are “story tellers”, I thought I’d point out this contradiction. Guess I was too obtuse. Obviously, I don’t agree with the Q writer’s assertion — guess they have never follow Sharyl Attkisson either. Just me ranting. And thanks for the compliment.]
